Mike. Thanks for a great day. Really useful. Lots of little things to help us. But a real pleasure to get this from an expert (with an immaculate workshop ). Nice to meet some fellow devotees too .

I did have one flapjack, but I needed full attention on the way home cos that flippin satnav was working is magic as usual. But I have to say, I was quite happy getting lost in that beautiful countryside .

Thanks Mike, a great day and nice to meet up with fellow enthusiasts. Thanks to Claire for the great breakfast and Duncan for the super veggie chilly.

Great day Mike, thoroughly enjoyed it and learnt so much about my new bike :clap. Mike, your hands are big and powerful :love oops sorry got mixed up thinking I was corresponding with you privately as we do:thumb

Please pass my thanks to Duncan for his sterling efforts on the catering side, maybe next time though you could ask him to try not to snore during the afternoon session when he takes his nap:augie

Mike, Thanks for a great day taking the terror and mystery out of GS ownership. Fabulous day in brilliant surroundings with a great bunch of guys and good food thrown in. Also got home by 17.30 but only had half the distance as davnjud! Also got to try out the waterproof qualities of the new jacket courtesy of the micro-climate around Coventry.
Cheers

I can't remember the name of the nice chap that sent me the hockey puck to make my camel toe extension . Thanks a lot for sending ! Btw I saw the postage was more than I was expecting , please PM your PayPal so I can make the right! Thanks again, very much appreciated :beerjug:

'Twas me. Glad to hear it arrived OK and don't worry about the postage; if I'd popped a few in the top box, there wouldn't have been any postage!
Had a great time at the service day. Shame we didn't cover replacing the final drive rear pinion seal as I went into the garage on Wednesday and discovered a small pool of oil under the FD hub. Bugger! Looking up the swing arm its clean, so the oil must be coming from the FD. Just need to buy the bike lift, then I can set about the fix.

Cheers Mac, much appreciated ! Good luck on the final drive lol, I've just done a degrease of all electrical sockets, ac 50 the lot, and a carb balance , so 2 things learned and done! Mikes a good teacher eh! Ha ha :rob

You won't need a lift for this job

Just get the rear wheel off, hike out the old seal and take a careful look at the bearings. There's an outside chance you picked up some grit in those lanes and it got into the seal?

Failing that, purchase a 7mm allen key, hot air gun, bearing, seal and off you go.

But then of course, you can always ship it over to Mikeyboy... But that will mean taking the paralever bearings out...another job...

But its a great excuse for getting a lift! I was half decided anyway, but the day in Mikeyboy's workshop sealed it. No more grovelling around on the floor for my old knees!
The wheel bearing and seal are fine, but the boot was weeping oil. Pulled the boot off and got about half and egg cup full of oil. Then checked the oil level in the FD and its well below the bottom of the threads, so I'm pretty sure its the pinion seal on the nose of the FD unless anybody knows better?

When you put it like that. I couldn't agree more .

And sounds like you're right about it being the pinion seal if it's all coming out into the boot/gaiter. The up side is it will be a good time to check the UJs, paralever bearings etc so when it all goes back together you're done for a long period

I can't remember but I think you'll need a special tool to get that seal out. An independent might be your friend on this occasion.

You're a gentleman Mike, I was going to call and ask if you could do the seal for me if I get the FD over to you! Will be in touch once I get it off.
Cheers,

Mac
