I would be interested in recommendations for overpants for a daily 20min commute in London.

So far, I have been using yellow hi-viz pants which go well over my chinos/suit trousers, are clearly visible, keep me dry (unless in a heavy downpour) but do not offer any protection.

Trying to be the responsible rider, I would like the same type of overpants that don't require a changing room at work but include some sort of protection in case of an off.

I tried a few of the so-called breathable and armoured versions in the days when I was commuting anything between 10k and 18k p.a on the bike. Nothing really breathed or made me feel that protected so I went back to leathers with the biggest cheapest pair of waterproof trousers I could buy kept in the top box. And they worked a treat, even on my 60-mile-each-way M25 commute in the rain and snow.

I daresay that some of the technical textile stuff would meet your needs but it's big money (and often worth it).

Aerostich roadcrafter is what you want. Zips from ankle to neck...goretex pro shell, armoured and beautifully made. Takes 5 seconds to remove it when you get to work..

Thanks for all the responses.
But wow, they certainly are not cheap. Then again they are supposed to protect.

Aerostitch Roadcrafter, worth the money in my opinion.

Klim Overland - Loose fit and plenty of adjustment. I wear them on their own in summer, layered in winter and over jeans when commuting. Gore Tex so waterproof and breathable, D3O armour and wide leg openings so easy to get on and off.:thumb
