Just read k12ptc's thread and subsequent posts on trading in a couple of year old GS for a new one.
My GS (Sept 2005) broke down twice in its first year.
I am a member of The Hull and East Ridging IAM and many members ride GS's and this is not an uncommon story of breakdowns.
Many of the GS riding members get a new one once its two years old for fear of high repair cost when out of warrantee.
Both my breakdowns were due to a faulty fuel pump.
Any thoughts / comments?

Got mine new in July 04, it's well out of warranty but I'd have to stump up about 50% of the new price to get a new one and trade mine in. So I'm running mine for a bit longer, I've had a few problems but none (yet) that have left me stranded.

I'll stick with it for a bit, especially as it is now the best it's been. (hope I'm not tempting fate but I think this forum can easily make you paranoid:rolleyes: ).

Keep it , all i will do if mine goes wrong is get a bmw dealer to code read it (if required) & fix it myself with new or s/h parts :thumb going to be cheaper than £3000 every two years to swop

How much is the fuel pump thingy? - seems to be a worthwhile investment.

Mine out in Jun 07, planning to keep it until fubar or fancy something else. However should failure occur I reserve the right to rant and curse

In terms of spend surely extended warranty investment is cheaper option for limited extension of life assuming GS12 owners are 'new bike' purchasers hnece will get new one in next few years anyway.
