Oxford Hotgrips - Any good?

Hi Folks.
Having spent the weekend on the advrider haf rally, I struggled a bit with cold/wet hands.
Forry told me about some retrofit heated grip kits available, one being the Oxford Hotgrip kit.
Have you had any experience of these kits, and can you recommend them to me? In fact, if you know of an alternative then feel free to spill the beans....

There's a few. KTM do some and R&G etc. But I have also seen dirtbike type ones that are not actually grips but look like resistance strips you put under your grips of choice. Go on the lighting circuit I suppose. I will try and find the linky.

Heated gloves ?

How about heated gloves ? I believe gerbing do them. They may be intended to be powered through one of their jackets/liners but I'm sure something could be rigged up if you just wanted heated gloves. Just a thought.

I've used Oxford and Daytona grips, the Oxford ones are great upto 55 degrees and they warm up quickly. My wife has been using them for years. Recommended A+

I have also had good service from the Oxford grips, also the wrap around and stick on with Velcro jobbies are great for the boss when she rides with me. I wrap them around the grab rails for her and just plug um in, she even has her own control...£38 the last time i bought some, also water proof so no faffin about getting them under the grips if you use them on the bars.

I have a set of Oxford grips on the GS. They get good and hot but the new digital controller is a pain in the a**e compared to the old push to turn on and twist to adjust switch. Not designed by someone who rides!!!!.

On the XR I use a set of the undergrip elements with Renthal grip's on top.
Not as controlable as the Oxfords but at least you can use the grips of your choice. Luke warm on the low setting and hot on high so you end up switching from one to the other a bit. Wouldn't be without them for the winter long distance trial's.
The Oxford grips are a bit hard for off road use if it's on a enduro bike, can get a bit slippy!!!

Like BMW, 3position switch high / low / off. The heater pads have 2 elements, only one works on low setting and both on the high setting. The resistance and heat outpt is very simialr to the BMW oe items.

The left heat pad runs at a slightly hotter temperature to allow for heat sink into the bar, whereas the throttle side is insulated through the throttle tube.

There is another similar, slightly cheaper version that switches high and low through a resistor, not as good / reliable and can be identified by the thicker heater lines in the pad and obviously the resistor.

Had them on 4 off my bikes now, 2 off roaders and 2 road.

When I bought my KLR650 they had just been fitted...excellant heat from them ( four stages but I've never got past 1 or 2 setting - ded ard is me ). They are wired into the system so when you turn the ignition off..they stay on ...so you have to manually turn them off but if you forget then they switch themselves off when they detect a low current charge etc.

First set of heated grips I've ever had...and I recommend them

The two GSs have factory heated grips on, and the other trail bikes don't need them..........

Timpo, Blue (UK) had the Oxford type on his 950 Adv, but removed them for just the reasons you say, to hard and slippy on his hands, particularly off road.

He now has the Symtecs on both his 950 Adv and his 450 EXC.

Drop him a PM I'm sure he'll gladly give you a comparison.

Just a note of caution.If you opt to fit Oxford hot grips,do NOT wire into the brake circuit ( as was the method used normally).The Oxford system detects a voltage drop when the brakes are applied and switches them off. Also switches off when cold if the tickover drops too low.
