I recently had my GS in for it's 1000km "inspection", and mentioned to the service manager that the bike had been running a little roughly, with less "sparkle" than when I first took delivery, and recent difficult starting.

Obviously this could have been due to a number of things bedding in with the new engine, but it turned out to be due to the owner-fitted padded grip on the throttle, which was a little longer than the handgrip, and was very slightly binding on either end, causing no end of confusion for (one of) the bike's computers. The throttle was not returning back to it's stop (not that I could detect a higher idle speed), which was causing the difficult starting.

Grips shortened, and all problems disappeared.
