Hi All,
Pre purchase question on the most important decision! Colour.
Some very basic questions.

Of the three (OD, Blue and White), only the white is gloss.
How are you folks finding the matt finish as regards scratching? Do they show up all minor scores very easily, and can anything be done to remove them? I suspect not. Maybe the matt lacquer protects them as well as the gloss finish does.
The white is very practical, but that 1200 Logo is mighty bright.

Oh, on the spoked wheels; the rims seem matt as well.

OK, I know this is a very vain topic, but I would appreciate any practical tips on the actual finish.

I have the Blue , seems Robust , and wear free so far . The Wheels are Matt so don't look dirty for weeks , it that's your thing . Finish is generally good I think , the Plastics fine . Good luck :thumby:

I have the White for the simple reason it can be polished normally, but I had a Matt finished bike previously and it's very easy to look after, basically just wash it and dry it
As for scratches a scratch is a scratch on any surface. The only difference is that with a lacquered finish there is the chance you may be able to polish it out.
I would say don't worry about it and go for the colour you like.

Hi Everyone.
Thanks for the replies.
LBL, your motorcycle looks fabulous; well down.
The only thing that put me off the white was the huge logo; good to see that it is only a sticker and can be removed. Usually these come off when warmed up a bit.

Went for the white colour today; had a white GS in the past and found it a good practical colour.

Also, cheered up by the fact that the matt wheels will not be a nightmare to keep clean.

I removed the hideous sticker on delivery day from my white bike: hairdryer and a credit card. Reasonably tough but very do able

Credit card?!:eek: I'll bet that's scratched it up a treat.:blast:P

So much better without.......[/QUOTE

Absolutely; well done. I reckon mine will vanish come delivery.
Did you notice any shading when you took them off? If done before the weather gets at the paint, there shouldn't be any.
Just curious; with a bit of warm air, those type of decals usually just peel off after they are lifted at the edge with a fingernail. Were these little guys reluctant to leave?

Speak to your dealer, ask them to remove at PDI...

I'd do it myself for peace of mind. It's only a 30 second job.:thumb

I'm going to order a set of black decals same as on the blue bike, I think black will blend in nicely with the rest of the black and white especially with a dark screen and winglets.

May I refer the honourable gentlemen to our very own graphics expert. http://www.humvee-graphics.com/

+1, a good point well made sar!

Cheers for the heads up guys :bow

Brilliant thank you looks like my bike may be getting a new look

cheers Terry :beerjug:

Here's a couple of pics of our replacement beak decal, it's one of our top sellers so you are not alone in disliking the original decals, the originals are easily removed as detailed further back in the thread a little heat from a heat gun or dryer will soften the vinyl, the originals are printed on a transparency and in most cases will lift off as one piece and leave no or little adhesive residue behind, one of the first jobs I did on mine was to remove the originals;

And replaced with these;

This Blue & Black colour scheme is popular with owners of White bikes;

Or if you prefer a more subtle colour scheme Black & Grey is available from stock, there is no dropdown option at present for this on our site just order any colour and add a note in the comments box when ordering stating "Black & Grey"

Getting my mate to do a decent set for the beak of my blue gsa ie individual lettering as I think the glossy carrier film of the standard graphics against the standard paint looks chatty , mind you it isn't the only part of the finish of the bike that is below par
