Paint for black rocker covers

I am intending to just buy a new pair of horrible shiny black ones. Easier and maybe cheaper than getting them powder coated. ;)

rocker covers paint

does any body now if black heat prof stove paint would work on rocker covers thanks Sean

Thinking of putting the round ones on, but remembered your comment. Was the one that got a crack in it a pattern or original BM made one?

My Mono's got the round covers on. I came a cropper at Bakermans do a couple of years ago - put some real gouges in the left hand cover, apart from the gouges the round cover stood up really well.

Were they the BM or pattern ones Rob? And do you think the pattern ones are weaker?

Bit hard I guess as most won't want to try destruction testing on perfectly good covers :o

Best I get the shiny ones :mmmm

Somewhere in the garage I have a (once) black cover that has gone 50 yards down the road :blast

I rode the bike home :thumb

I could go and photograph it if anyone is interested :D

(I should add that I don't make a habit of destruction testing Airheads :augie ).

Timolgra led me into a trap up in those Welsh hills and I did a forward roll/half turn/backflop on my G/s...ended up dazed and oil phissing out the rocker. Took one hell of a smack ( so did Tim later !! ) and this piece of branch was rammed in tightly to get me home...lasted about 200 miles and I still have the rocker as a spare !! I think as Rob says, how do you measure the strength between a round and a square rocker. I'm thinking of modding my G/S in the spring so round rocker covers will be ordered and I have a marling exhaust buried up in the loft somewhere..so the side panels may go into storage as well !! ( All this subject to the rath of Proff  )

Perfickley good rocker box that Kenny, turn it t'other way up and put a bit of chewy in the 'ole and bob's yer dads bro' :thumb2
No problems with side covers being taken off, might save them when your little legs don't reach the floor like in the above incident :augie:augie

If they`re the `orrible boxy rectangular ones,he`d be better off slinging them in the nearest wheelie bin and fitting some lovely round ones.

One of the better visual improvements you can do to an Airhead :thumb2

Just went to motobins and found that there are 2 types of round peanut covers; one for £29.50 (part 09519) and the other for £48.50 (part 09500). Anyone know the physical differences except that the more expensive one seems to be genuine BMW?

Cheers

Hi

I had the black painted square covers and they looked pretty tatty once it started flaking. I found trying to get the paint off from between the fins very time consuming and hard work.

I got the two covers vapour blasted by Elgamec and they came back looking fantastic.

That really is about the difference:thumb2.

Some say the OE ones don't warp like the patern parts and some say blah blah blah !!

Depends how much you love your airhead:kissy2. Pattern ones completely OK IMHO:thumb2

Ask on here first, some folk may have them for sale :-)

I've got a pair of Pattern round covers on my '91 R100GS PD.
Absolutely brilliant - Standard on the right and with the rather sexy custom Oil filler cap on the left. Easily as good as the originals.

Motobins were the cheapest for these - about £50 less than Motorworks for the pair I think.

Ok ... I'm in the market for a pair. Thanks for the feedback.
