Paint jobs - Please take a look.

Yes fella ;)

Very nice tank tunner. I have a black standard plastic tank on my GS. It already has some paint bubbles that seem to appear and disappear at will, they also move from place to place. I can't fathom out if its bleed through fumes, or some kind of leak . I have been thinking of replacing it with a metal one, but would really prefer to keep the black plastic well painted like the one in the picture. Is there a special sealant you use, or do you just have to know what you are doing.

It's a bit of both really, it's using the right products and more importantly patiently going through meticulous prep. It's the prep that nobody sees but takes up the bulk of the time.
Here's an example -
That GSA tank above took about 10 hours in total, I estimate that I spent probably 30 minutes of that with the spray gun in my hand, the other 9 1/2 hours are spent doing prep of some kind. That could be filling, flatting, masking, cleaning, cleaning again, flatting again, cleaning again, and again etc etc.

Prep is everything, prep is god ... all hail prep!! :D

Then of course there's the apres paint ... 99 times out of 100 there's a couple of bits to nib and polish and even if there aren't I always wax every item, I'd never send a job out with naked paint, they all get a layer of wax ;)

It all adds up!

Your work ethic stands you well, the finish is sublime.:beerjug:

I'll get one of those tanks one day. And then ask you to paint it :)

I've been saying that for over 10 years, the length of time i've owned that tank. I remember seeing one of those big tanks on Mick O'Malley's 1100 and, when I found one for sale, I promptly bought it. Since then i've kept putting off the spray job, due in main to the cost involved.
Well, I bit the bullet and decided to crack on with it, mainly because of all the good things i've heard on here about Chris' workmanship.
Yes, a single colour's not so complex as a multi colour design (my original plan), but a single colour will look shit unless you put the prep in beforehand. I've also had a Desierto fairing and beak done to match and the fairing wasn't done that well by the previous owner, with a couple of runs showing.
Looking forward to picking my bits up, even though it'll take me a day's round trip, early next week!

Nice one Chris, looking bloomin good in the pics.:thumby:

Waiting with interest - I know one will appear one day :) - no rush...

Right ... Time to paint something a bit more moderate in size!

I painted this tank a couple of years ago, my customer is now giving his bike a full restoration so I have the tank back for a new scheme and the 'tins' a complete repaint.

It was originally black with an orange Harley logo.

Chris why do you post such photographs of painting elegance. It makes me want to go in the garage and take a belt sander to the finish on my tank.

Leave the photos until summertime when most of us are wearing sunglasses and we will miss the exceptional detail and finish.

Steve ..... I'm just a phonecall away. I can put an end to this misery for you :thumb :D

Get your jobs in quickly tossers, once those pics find their way onto a Harley forum Chris is going to have quite a queue outside his door...

His yard is going to look like some kind of moustache convention!

Brilliant work, even by your own high standards :thumb

Back to back Harley tanks ...... whatever next! :D

I managed to break out my new airbrush too :thumb
