Afternoon all,

Next job on the rebuild in the rear diff. I’ve taken it off in order to repaint it. However. I’m torn between fully stripping it down and having it powder coated and painting it myself.

I’ve painted everything silver myself, and to be honest I’ve had enough of the overspray in the garage….. however, it isn’t leaking oil and I’m pretty sure stripping it down will involve potentially replacing 3 bearings and the big seal.

Any suggestions? Mask it off, rub it down and go over with hammerite, or strip it and send it to powder coat?

Has anyone sprayed their own?

Cheers
Mike

It’s a big old job doing the seals and bearings.
How many miles on the bike?
Are they due for a change?
Is there any play in them?
Are you keeping the bike long term? If so, it may be worth getting someone like Mikeyboy to fully refurbish it?

Send the whole thing to Mike boy of this parish and it back as good as new.

29k miles, I don’t think there’s any play in it. I’d have hoped the bearings wouldn’t have been knackered just yet!

Might have to get in touch with Mikey and see what the cost is.

Cheers!

He rebuilt mine with similar mileage on it.
I don’t think there was much wrong with it but while he had my bike and doing other work I had him do it purely for peace of mind. It wasn’t painted though.
