I've decided to tidy up my engine casing. My 1150 has got black casing and I think I'm going to use PJ1 satin black stuff. All well so far but I'm a bit confusled about using primer. Do I need to and if so what's the difference between etching primer and acid etching primer (if any)?

I am going to sand the casings a tad just to get the crap off and will do a bit of extra work anywhere there seems to be any actual corrosion.

Any thoughts before I buy the wrong stuff?

Eching primer contains an acid that eats into the metal to give a rough surface for the paint to stick to, it is only for bare metal or filled metal as it can lift the existing paint and give a poor finish.
If you are using PJ1 they recommend using their paint remover first then their primer then top coat and then clear coat.
But you could probably get away with a couple of coats of primer then satin top coat.
Having spent many hours filling ,sanding ,priming and spraying a tank only to watch it crackle when I sprayed on the clear coat I would recommend a system that ensures all the paints are compatible.

Thanks for the pointers people. Dremel type rotary tool arrived today so it might not be autumn when I give this a go. Got to have a go with new gadget ASAP!
