Hi guys,

I have just put a wanted ad on the the forum for a binnacle without the mounting holes for the deflector. This is mainly because my deflector is a bit tired and scuffed, and it may look better without for the short term.

If I want to repaint the deflector can anyone give me some tips on what I need to do to prep and paint it please? Not sure about scratch fillers, abrasives, which paint to use on flexible plastic etc. A previous owner also kindly drilled 2 holes in the deflector to mount an auxilliary light switch, and I would like to take that off and make good if possible. May be easier to buy another black deflector?

Thanks,

Monty

Monty,

I used Isopon 'flexible' on my deflector when removing some road scratches ( :blast ).

Rubbed down with wet and dry and then just spray painted it with Halfords black cellulose paint.

It worked OK, but I have a couple of places where the original black paint is lifting.

I masked off the black & yellow transfer and just toutched it up with a fine brush.

I think these deflectors are still available, but will come in grey primer.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the tips. I checked with Motorworks and BMW still sell black deflectors for £159  but the better news is you can still get the yellow stickers for the delflector for about £18.

I may be brave and try to spray the beastie, but I am still worried about how I could fill the 2 holes some numpty drilled to mount the rocker switch for the tasteless Ring driving light. :blast

Monty,

That's good. When I enquired 18 months ago I was told they were only available in grey.

If the holes aren't too large, Isopon should work on them.
