I know that when I bought my adventure at the beginning of December last year ( yes a month and a half) and asked for the aluminium panniers that after time they would corrode but I did not expect it quite so soon. I know I can polish them out but is this right or do you think I should go to the dealers to complain?

Yea that’s about right
Metal polish then acf50
Or metal polish then clear lacquer them

Reminds me of what happen to aluminum if you expose it to salt...

I used this on mine but didn't apply it well enough. Despite that they have stayed pretty much new and after 3 years look far better than yours. If I bought panniers again I'd just make sure I prepped and applied it with far more care instead of simply throwing the stuff in the general direction of the panniers and top box and hoping some would stick :D

Just cover them with more stickers..............:hippy

thanks all for that, I knew they would go just a bit sooner than I thought. will clan them and acf 50 them and see how that goes
thanks again

Bare Ali and Salt.... the end...

Have em powder coated or wrapped... or don’t use in winter...

The two full sets I’ve owned have all gotten white corrosion marks within the first week.
The first set I polished to remove it and it only came back worse (didn’t seal it with wax or better after - rookie mistake).
Now I don’t notice it and you can’t see it from 5 feet away. Have put old panniers on new bikes and it doesn’t bother me which is weird as marks on a bike bother me usually.
Might wrap em just to change the look. There is some interesting looking brushed aluminum look wraps with different tints which I like.
I would have been interested in the OEM black panniers but I just know I would constantly scratch the lid throwing my leg over at least wrap is harder wearing and easier fix.

Do the black OEM panniers corrode the same way? Are they just black painted aluminium ones or are they a black aluminium?? I too bought an Aluminium top box and it was pitted after three rides, so considering my options before I purchase panniers!

If the black OEM ones don't corrode, might get them and simply wrap the top box!

I believe the new bmw black panniers are anodised so if chopped will show up best to wrap them

Or buy Bumot Defender panniers that fit straight on to the OE GS rails rather than the BMW shite.

Or if you don’t want ally panniers then the Xtremadas also fit straight on

I have both and they are brilliant . The ally Defenders are the best metal panniers I’ve ever owned.
