Anyone got suggestions on how to insure top box & panniers? According to Bennets, only panniers under £400 are covered by default but to include my Lone Rider kit, they want to setup a new policy.

Wondering if I could just cover the panniers separately? About £2k in topbox and panniers, I don't want to risk it :D

Well, I bought a "GT" version of my bike with factory fitted luggage. It's insured as a V85TT Travel so everything on the bike when it left the factory is included.
Not the answer you are looking for but it is an answer to the question you posed at the start of your post that others might find useful ...

I think you’ve a job on your hands, TBH.
Lone Rider are non-standard/OEM kit, so my guess is insurers won’t be that helpful.
Back to the comparator sites and look for an insurer who is less fussy than Bennett’s.

I found Bennett’s rather difficult / unhelpful, at this year’s renewal (and that was a standard bike…); as if they didn’t want my business.
Maybe an opportunity for you to look at alternatives.

Speak to Devitt. Seemingly more reasonable to talk to than most and I think many miss them as the administrator of the BMW scheme, now with the same empire that owns CNash and Swinton.

https://www.devittinsurance.com/mot...ications-explained-accessory-or-modification/ show they class luggage as an accessory not a modification. They state accessories should be declared and may incur and extra premium. No details of a claim limit for luggage so you need to ring and ask.

Bennets wouldn't cover my panniers due to the value of them. About £2k. They only automatically include panniers <£400.

Did a search and Hastings would cover like for like replacement as long as I noted them on the policy. Plus, they were several £100 cheaper then Bennets so I switched to them (already have my car insurance with them).

Such a PITA but rather safe then sorry!

It answers my question. My Tiger Sport 800 is the Tour model, with panniers and top box included and not as options. Even slightly off-topic comments can be useful, thank you.

Excellent! So, you got 2k insurance cover for contents of both top box and panniers? And that's with Devitt?

I read it as just being the panniers / top box and presumably any frames / fixings ie. excluding any contents.

Some (not all) travel and / or household policies cover theft from locked vehicle glove boxes, boots, cases and the like.

ie. The loss has to follow forcible entry.

I'm more worried about the boxes then their contents tbh. Most times the panniers come in with me wherever I stay.
