Apologies if I've posted this in the wrong place, I'm still finding my way about here.

It would appear that one of my pannier locks has a broken metal plate (the red/orange part which turns with the key) resulting in me being unable to lock it to the bike.

Is there any way you can get into the mechanism so I can take it out and replace it (or make one up to fit).

All advice appreciated (useful or not :D )

Thanks,

Mike.

Not sure how easy it is to replace but sounds like you need this

You have to drill out the rivets holding the lock carrier plate to the pannier. This will allow you to remove the lock carrier plate (1). Exposing the internal mechanism. Unfortunatly the part you need is made of cast white metal. If you have the broken off piece you might be able to get it welded back together. If you've lost the broken off piece then you might be able to get someone to fabricate you a replacement item, using your other pannier lock plate as a pattern. If this is not possible then you will need to obtain a complete lock carrier plate assembly.

I was lucky, mine was cracked 3/4 way through but still intact so I was able to get it repaired.

I've just been checking the illustrated parts catalogue I have for BMW. The part you need is supplied as part of a repair kit (Part No 71-60-7-654-337)

From the description the kit is only available to BMW dealers, which usually means they will need to do the work for you.
