I plan on removing the pannier racks on my 1250GSA, it looks like it’s simply a case of removing the bolts attaching the racks to the frame of the bike, but is there anything I need to be aware of/wary of?

Do the bolts need to be put back in once the rack is removed?

I’ve done this a number of times for cleaning and fitting accessories etc. The bolt that go in vertically are loctited and also suffer from water ingress down the threads. Attack them cold and you will have an evens chance of stripping the torx heads. Heat them with a hairdryer ( not a paint stripper heat gun), allowing time for the heat to soak down the bolts.

I too just run the racks when I’m needing the panniers. Never had a problem removing the bolts at the top (two different lengths) and yes I replace the bolts in the hangers without the rack. (y)

Thanks very much guys (y)

Well that was much easier than I was expecting. Does anyone know what to torque the bolts up to, I just did them at 10Nm as that seemed ok, a bit tighter than hand tight but not excessive :nenau
