Pannier Suggestions

luggage

my veiws on metal panniers have totally changed....

to expensive and way too heavy

soft luggage such as Wolfman systems are the way to go...

ali panniers are just BLING :pullface

Just returned from riding London to Beijing with globebusters - 13 GS/A's 1 800 GS & a, urm, ktm - guess which panniers the vast majority had? Yip metal mule, why? Cos there the best. Most expensive, yes. But best. Don't buy Trax, 1 guy did they lasted about 3 weeks!

My bike came to me with BMW luggage. I use the side cases and box every week to carry luggage, books, laptop, chargers, padlock & chain etc, for 2 night away.

There is always enough room and I can go to Tescos for my dinner/breakfast shopping with room to spare. So they are not bling unless left on the bike and run around empty.

+1 for the ally corrosion issue. I might try to get them anodised.

PS the carrying straps are a dead loss - too long for most of the time so the ends flap in the breeze (useless tidy loops).

If I was that worried about having the most robust luggage available, I wouldn't be riding a bloody BMW. QED.

ard cases

not sure if im doing the right thing here, but.
just got a new gsa that came with boxes.
so i may be willing to sell my ard cases and tt racks to fit all 1200 gs and gsa
but not the new wc.
they are some of rogers first boxes from when he was first starting.
grey with black lids(hinged).
they have been fantastic, dropped, crashed, repaired and have stickers from
far flung places. as such they have the pattina of being used as intended.
ive an emotional attachment to these boxes but times are thin.
as said, not in pefect condition but, i would still be happy to fit them and head off around the world. £275 and ill fit them for you, not willing to post.
as for advice on panniers, for general civilised touring hard boxes are fine
but for the likes of that globe buster type of thing soft is the way to go.
i now use the ortlieb stuff but wolf man are also very good.

Since then there is another softbag option, the Adventure Spec. Magadan panniers designed by Walter Colebatch to suit his hard and fast long distance off road trips.

Cordura 1000 Denier fabric with kevlar lining, Designed to be locked to the bike with Paksafe locks. So some security from knife attack and less easily nicked.

I have 2 pelican cases that I had on my GSA you are welcome to them for 100 pounds + postage inc mounting clamps that I used (exhaust clamps) JJH
