So I nearly sold my Urban a few weeks back - I wanted to get a GSA for touring... mainly due to lack of decent luggage.

I had/have SW Motech Legends Gear bags fitted both sides (had to move the brackets on the bag a touch to clear the exhaust) and then thought, "surely I could work out how to fit aluminium panniers to the existing SW Motech SLC racks?"

So I got to work. I really liked the look of the GIVI Trekker Dolomiti aluminium panniers and they were only £450 or so. Then, SW Motech sell bag fixing brackets for their SLC racks separately, so I bought a pair ("SW Motech SYS Bag M Adapter Plate") and then a pair of the GIVI monokey bracket kits ("Givi E115F Monokey® Junction Kit") which I then measured out and fixed to the adapter plates.

End result? Givi Dolomiti panniers that I can clip to my SLC brackets :)

By happy coincidence, the pillion pegs sit exactly underneath the front corner of the panniers, adding extra support, so no worried there.

The only thing I need to do now is attach a metal loop to the adapter plates somehow so I can lock them to the bike when in use, but essentially it's worked like a charm!

I intend to do exactly the same but using Magadan soft panniers attached to the frame adapter plates. How did you relocate the rear indicators to clear the panniers and be visible?

I’ve ordered a relocation bracket from Holan (time will tell if it ever arrives - they don’t get glowing reviews and communication is near non-existent) - for now I just knocked up a bracket that I’ve attached behind the number plate from some 1.5” wide aluminium strip I had lying around - the stock wires just reach.

I meat to add costs

Panniers were about £450, brackets £40 each, monokey fitting £25 each and the Holan bracket for the indicators will be £40 with postage

So £620 and an hour or two of fettling :)

@gabriel_gs just out of interest what is the width of those panniers at their widest point? I’m on a bespoke framed Shad 3P system and often wondered how wide other people’s setups are compared to mine.

The Givi boxes look like a neat solution visually but from a practical perspective I’d be pretty worried about the weight limits.

Don’t put too many bags of sugar in those boxes and ride them over too many bumps.

There’s a cautionary tale posted this morning about a GS with too much weight in luggage not designed to cope with it…

So as I did mention above, the panniers actually ‘sit’ on the pillion pegs’ rubber tops, which therefore take much of the weight of the panniers - I dare say they’re actually more sturdy now than many other pannier set-ups and I’ve really got no weight-worries there.

All good!

(and actually not for sale as I’ve sold the bike too!)

Not sure bud, as I’ve now sold the bike

Looked like this from behind though… (if you were to view form above, they ‘taper’ towards the back of the bike too, not ‘dead parallel’ with each other as they follow the shape/line of the bench seat)IMG_8133.jpeg
