Papplewick Pumping Station Bike Weekend

Found leaky float problem. The brass fuel pipe stub on the carb had 'peeled' whispy flakes of oxide. It looked like tissue paper stuck to the top of the float needle. Modern fuels. I'm thinking the bike is getting old (like me) and needs more medication - fuel preserver as well as lead replacement occasionally!
Other bike

How did you get away for 1pm.
I had arranged to take the airhead , contacted the organisers but did not go as I was informed that we had to remain on site until 3pm.
I just rode out. Nobody seemed to mind and they certainly didn't say anything. There again, I hadn't registered my bike.

Turned up early and got in for free too!

Went on the Monday, thoroughly enjoyed myself. Pulled up at the car park over the road & was pointed to the gated entrance with all the bikes at the top. Quick chat with the guy on the gate and was then waved in. Far more bikes than I had expected, lots of interesting stuff. The pump room was fabulous - superb workmanship for a room that was never meant for public viewing. That beam engine is mesmeric to watch in action. Good tea and choc brownies at the cafe too.
A few bikes left before 3pm, bit of an exodus thereafter but still quite a few about right to the end (mostly Tetleys...)
Planning to go on an older bike next year to fit in with the classic vibe

As a previous frequenter of colliery winding gear, old pump houses, quarries, umpteen steelworks, offshore ships, platforms, power stations and crushing plants, the displays leave me a bit cold (snob!). I've been to all the best places  But its nice to see the gear kept and on display. It was also nice and friendly, good caff and a relaxing potter around the lanes. Apart from the fuel trail I left from Lowdham onwards o_O

I wish I had an older bike to bring. 1920 or 30 would be great! Scott, Vincent, BMW(!) or anything with a flat tanks and an excess of chrome levers. My old man had two Scotts. Also a Vincent twin and other stuff he refused to disclose to discourage me from biking. My mum let slip a lot of stuff after he'd gone though. Including the real reason for her persistent ankle trouble....... And hitting a parked bus two up
