Paradors Waypoints

I will check. The answer as to how many, is I don’t know- it depends on which in the right area have availability. But good point. They might be listed in Basecamp.
If they are in a Garmin device I’m not sure it helps with my planning, but in MRA it wouldn’t as we have tarmac roads only this trip.

If you open Basecamp and in the search bar top right just type in "Paradores" it'll give you a list. I've just tried. I didn't create my file this way! You have to click on 'more' as it only shows five or so as a default.

EDIT: Scrap that - it's just searching in the data file I'd already created!

OK cheers- I have combined both our files together- attached.
For those wanting to use it, you will need to go through it to remove duplicates as there are some. Easy to spot as you will find the digit '1' at the end of the name- that one is the duplicate.

and we all look forward to a visit from Berin with photographs of each Parador, bathroom, bedroom, restaurant, food and safe parking for each one... please along with coordinates verification.

OK, all done.This is so easy in basecamp. I just imported treb's GPX file into a file folder in Basecamp called Paradors, in the folder Paradors. Then selected all the paradors in NW Spain, and created a new file file folder called Paradors NW Spain. Then import the NW Spain templar POI's, and I can easily view which paradors are near which sites and plan my routes.

I'd be happy to learn there's a way to do that in MRA but I don't think there is.

You are right Basecamp is much better for POI manipulation than MRA and in the properties tab for the waypoints you can set a Garmin GPS to give a proximity warning. If you use POI loader to load these points onto your Garmin GPS you can set the proximity warning universally for a group of POI's such as these hotels. One reason why I still have the ZumoXT mounted above the Clocks on My Africa Twin.



In addition, were a POI file contains several columns of information notes tab in the POI these are concatenated into information notes. Also you can see that the point was obtained from Open Street Mapping and if yo click on that you will be brought to the waypoint location on OSM.



You can do it in MRA as Richard demonstrated above just by uploading the GPX file as a POI under route lab.



This dialog pops up and you select your GPX or CSV.



For the Paradors 31st of July GPX this information is displayed when you click on the POI. The import has correctly Identified the Lat/Long and name of the Parador. The rest of the information is lost.



For shits and giggles I asked Google Gemini to get me a list of Paradors in Spain arranged into a CSV which MRA can up load (it came up with 97 with some missing from the existing list and some new ones!). To (slightly) enhance the information displayed by MRA I joined a description column with the name column as MRA can only display Latitude Longitude and a name the dash shows the split between the name and description and looks like this.



This is how the enhanced info is displayed



This is the area of interest with both lists turned on


and with only the July 31 List.



As usual with these things if information is sourced by different methods you get a different result.

Thanks for that, interesting. I find though the poi’s only become visible in MRA at quite a high level of zoom, which is less useful than Basecamp where I can show the relevant Paradors and Templar sites, so I can visualise the routes I want.

Yip I prefer basecamp for POI and track handling. The POI's in MRA only become visible at the 10km scale on their site.

Indeed. Though once you find the zoom sweet spot, they stand out reasonably well. Or at least they do on a large iPad. Less well on a phone.

In the NW of Spain we've visited, the Paradors I would recommend are:-

Santo Estevo - miles from anywhere, beautiful hotel and scenery, fantastic restaurant.
Costa de Morte - beautiful new hotel, overlooking a paradise beach
Corias - very good restaurant
Puebla de Sanabria - very cosy and the old town is great
Benavente - Modern town but old-ish parador with a lovely swimming pool area.
Zamora - right in the town, amazing pool (but was 45C when we were there)!

I wouldn't rush back to:-

Santiago de Compostela unless you want to visit the cathedral and city.
Leon was very luxurious (newly refurbished) and great restaurant but a bit expensive
Ribadeo - a bit nondescript (as Paradores go)
