I have a bit of play in the swinging arm and the rear wheel. Apart from getting a manual and checking it out for myself, how do I tighten up the swinging arm??

any advice would be good.

If there is play in the final drive pivot bearings, you would be best to remove them & check their condition.
You will need to heat the area of the swingarm where the pivot bolts thread in to soften the threadlock, and then swing on it with a long bar. Undo l/h adjuster first.
Refitting the bolts, remove all traces of threalock, install r/h bolt first, apply threadlock & tighten to 160nm, then l/h adjuster, apply threadlock & tighten to 7nm, then tighten lock nut to 160nm.
If the bearings show any signs of wear, replace them as they are not expensive. It is pretty common to have to replace them, so your local dealer should stock them, they aren't that expensive as a genuine part.
Hope this helps,
Brian.

Just search this section of the forum for "bearings" and you will find a wealth of informative (and sometimes conflicting) information.

If you are (like most of us) an enthusiastic DIY spanner-jockey, it might be better to follow the manual. Doing it by the book might give you more peace of mind than the way the mechanically-gifted :bow "just-do-it-and-forget-it" advise.

Cheers, I will look up bearings and I'm downloading as I write
