My minds gone blank, it's long time since I removed the throttle cables and much whisky has been consumed since but which carb does the long throttle cable go to off side or near side ?
How should the throttle cables be routed should they both go down the same space between the gusset and headstock or one either side can't get any free play in the cables.

Left hand one is the short one, they route along the left side of the frame

Throttle Cables

If you haven't already got the parts, have you thought about converting it back to the mono set up with a single cable from the twist grip to a splitter under the tank. This prevents the uneven pull when you turn the bars sometimes and seems to work better IMHO. I've just done it to the GSPD.

I am still unable to get any free play in the throttle cables i have measured them and they are the correct length but even with the carbs off but the cables connected there is no free play at the adjuster which suggests to me that the inner cable is too short.I have checked the position of the the throttle cam and the marks line up.
I have checked the part number on the new cables and cross referenced with the microfiche and the numbers are correct.
Before i stripped the bike down the throttles were ok i have not moved the butterfy position i have taken off the butterfly actuation arms but they can only go on one way as far as i can see.
So before i throw the new cables in the bin and follow Arkwright's suggestion anyone any ideas

You need to shorten ther outer cables (providing they are still long enough afterwards).

Pull the ferrule off the end of the outer at the adjuster end.

Cut the plastic outer sheath back 1/2" or whatever it needs.

Hacksaw through the wound spiral outer (without cutting the inner ).

Unwind the cut-off spiral outer and chuck it.

Push the ferrule back over the new outer end (it may need adjusting with snipe-nosed pliers to straighten the crimping).

You now have a longer inner cable

If you've got Venhill cables this is frequently a problem, I've just binned a brand new pair put on by the PO, for that reason, as well as doing the conversion.

My last pair of VenhilLs were in a sealed bag with the correct bike and carbs on the label. The inners were too short too.

Seems like you have to order them by length and cable projection to be certain of getting the correct cable.

Thanks guys thought the whiskey had got me! but as I am a Yorkshireman I will try Voyagers shortening method, if that fails the Arwright solution will be used (if I can still open my purse!)
