Paranoid - Whats that noise

Think having different brands of tyres front and rear invalidates your insurance.

Get a grip on reality

Of course it doesn't

Why would it?

If the tyres are legal then it's fine

Nothing wrong with a Metzeler on the rear & a Continental on the front

Don't tell me to get a grip on reality.
When your told by a reputable dealer you tend to take it on board.
I did say "Think"
Any insurance bod's out their with the correct answer.

He was trying to get you to buy a complete set:rolleyes:

I have run 'mixed' tyres and passed many a MOT, taken my bike for a main dealer service, without no comment on mixing tyre brands and both my car and van run mixed brands of tyres as do some of my bikes

Insurance invalidated......................I don't think so:blast

Obviously you can't mix radials and crossplys, but not tyre brands

I think you're misunderstood:augie

Bennett's website just says don't mix different makes of tyres for safety reasons.
I will clarify with Bikesure tomorrow and see what they have to say.
I was as surprised as the next person to hear that different tyres front and rear was an insurance problem.

I think there is an important point here. Although having different tire brands per se may not invalidate your insurance, if you were to have an accident the loss adjusters would state that you have two different brands and the insurance company would try and wriggle out of the payouts

I doubt it

Urban myth

You can have a Michelin,Firestone,Goodyear and a Toyo on each corner of your car and as long as they're above 1.6mm then the Insurance Co won't care two hoots

Similarly you can have a Conti Trail Attack on the front of your GS and a Metzeler Tourance on the rear, as long they are legal at the time of a claim

Rubbish. There is an issue with mixing cross ply and radials though; but IIRC you are allowed to mix if the cross ply is on the correct wheel but cannot recall which way round it is.

There is nothing in law about mixing different brands, only crossply with radial etc on the same axle of a motorcar . End of story.
I have never known of an insurance company not insuring you for mixing. Its not a stipulation you have to declare either, as mentioned the only requirment is that they are the legal ( depth and/or condition).

I'm just breaking in my 2012 WC GS so all the noises are new to me (I just picked it up a few weeks ago, It was three months old with only 30 miles on the clock, so it must have been sitting in someone garage idle). Given some of the issues stated with the 2012 bike I've become a bit paranoid so would welcome your feedback as to what's normal and what's not.

The noise that I'm noticing on the GS is a whine that seems to come from the front wheel. My initial though was the pads were rubbing, but it's too consistent for that and breaking makes no difference. I also wondered if it was simply the wind whistling through the bike. Final theory is its the drive shaft throwing its voice and making it sound like its from the front wheel. Different road surfaces can make it louder.

The noise is hard to explain and I'm sure impossible for you to diagnose, but if it does sound familiar to you I would love to know what it is.
Back on subject...
Mine makes this whine noise. Had a really good listen to it Saturday and its definitely not tyre noise (or at least tyre on the road noise).

Sounds more like an aerodynamic noise or wheel bearing noise if you ask me. It didn't seem to lessen with differing speeds which was strange.

Anyone got any more ideas? (not that I am really bothered by it, would be nice to know thats all)

My pal has this noise from his gs. We both agree its his tyres. My gs has roadsmarts fitted, no noise from my tyres. His bike has covered 2k and the front end tyre noise has been there from new.

If you lot think you're tyres are noisy, throw some TKC80's on !!!!

Or use ear plugs....which drown the noise of TKC's.

Personally I find the white noise bothers me on a long ride not the tyre noise. But ear plugs sort everything out.
