Now, this could just be me not used to this bikes character, as I've only had it a few weeks. It's a 2004 1150GSA.

On higher revs, like the point of changing up, I'm hearing a "tickety-tickety" noise which is rev related.

I'm worried that it sounds like something dry but it's distinct enough to notice it above the engine/exhaust and through a helemt.

Normal? Is is just me?

Sounds like a loose throttle butterfly. Nothing much to worry about. Vern does a rebuild if it bugs you. Mine's been like it since the last 20k miles. Mind you, on my 1100 it's the quietest noise on there!

More here on Advrider and from Vern here.

I'd go with this for now, although checking the valve adjustment would be a good start, because I was the same when I bought the same bike a few years ago.

There's a few things to learn over the first few months of ownership but you will settle down unless it really to fall apart.

i had the same last week

just couldn't work out what it was. in town i couldn't hear it but on the open bit you could hear this horrible bloody noise. in the twisty bits i'd get upto warp speed and it would go away then i'd slow to 80ish and within a few minutes it came back:nenau very strange

found out in the end it was one of those new fangled 1200 toilet blocks trying to keep up with me:aidan

Thanks for all the thoughts here!

Ah if only it was as simple as keys rattling or a stone in the tyre!

I'm no mechanic so I'm trying to work out if this is worth contacting the dealer I bought it from as it's under warranty. Trouble is he's in Yorkshire and I'm in Edinburgh. Or do I get the workshop manual out and really get stuck in - that may be foolhardy as the most I've done is replace a starter motor/exhaust etc - the namby pamby stuff.

Maybe I'll take it to a friendly local dealer and play Name That Tune with him.

Oh and thanks for not saying, "...the noise you hear is your engine".

Try some Shell V Power. If the noise stops it may be the ignition timing is out a tad.

So are you saying by introducing Shell V Power the higher octane/detergent content masks the bad ignition timing, thereby identifying the noise as a timing issue?

A cunning plan!

This is an ADV - does it have the OE engine bars? Twice the top left attachment has fractured on mine as it's so weak that hitting the bars with a damp sausage roll is enough to break it. Anyway, if it has, it acts like a tuning fork and makes quite a loud rev related noise. Took me a while to work out what it was:rolleyes:
