Right

I have only had my gs 2 months, got paralever squeaking.

did the bearings myself only problenm I had was getting the driveshaft to line up, when I got it in everything went back together nicely.

here lies my problem I am sure there is some vibes on aceleration that were not there before, so did I aline the prop correctly.

not having the gs for long I am sure there are some vibes to the engine.
Is there anyway to check without taking it to bits again :blast

thanks Dazzle

chances are yes, maybe not aligned correctly but as the bikes are vibey its difficult to tell, as some are more than others,

Try balancing the throttle bodies first.A lot easier than stripping the drive.
What tyres are you using and is the vibration more pronounced when cornering?.

I agree with that, I have part worn Tourances with virtually no motorway miles on them and they can feel really knobbly at small lean angles, I think its a characteristic rather than a fault. But it will make you crap yer armour after reading the final drive repair pages in the Font of all wisdom :thumb2

Wot others said.
However - my 2p:
Are the vibes revs or road speed dependant? Out of balance throttle bodies will vibe at similar revs regardless of gear or road speed.
A missaligned drive shaft (or tyres come to that) will not be influenced by gear or revs and will vibe according to road speed.

What year bike? Thought that except for the old ones you couldnt get the splines wrong `cos of the big section one .... :nenau

edit: oops didnt read it right .... I`m on about final drive pinions ...:drool

latest, at 70-80 its smooth, on constant throttle at 40 feels quite rough.
accellerating is worse.
when I reasembled it I tried to make sure the yokes were parrallel when I lined up the splines, as I believe from what I read they will only line up parralel if you have them the right way round.
but as I say am new to bmw so not sure of a ballpark, before I bought mine I test rode a couple of 1200's they were not smooth.
but this is making my ducati's seem smooth :eek
I suppose I will have to take it off again for piece of mind :blast
rear wheel feels smooth when you spin it.
pulled the clutch in to isolate drive no vibes but that could be because its not under load.
thanks for replies Dazzle.

Is it an 1100 or 1150 you have?.
If you are going along at 40 in top it'll vibrate like a dump truck.
Is it smooth from 3.5K revs upwards?.
Do the mirrors blur at 5K plus?.
These old lumps make some noises that would make a Ducati owner paranoid within weeks (aside from open clutch noise of course:D).
I've got a 1000 monster m'self,so i know what you mean about lack of vibration.

hi colban
40mph constant throttle not in top 4th maybe about 3500 I'd say.
I do get vibes when blipping throttle at a standstill may be I am just paranoid :nenau
might have to take a ride to a curtain Mr Steptoe :augie

Rule 1 of riding a BMW, ignore noises!

When I first started riding mine I could of sworn that half the bike was falling off by the amount of wierd noises it made. Bike still in one piece so it must just of been me being paranoid. :D

If you get vibes blipping the throttle at a stand-still, I'd second what others have said about balancing the TBs. When I first switched from my thumper to the boxer, I was a bit concerned about all the noises, too, and that's even having driven cars with boxer engines for many years!

Give the TB balance a try and see what happens. The suggestion about tyre wear is an excellent thought, too. I ran TKC 80s for a bit and once they started to wear, the vibes could become horrific at various speeds.

Good luck sorting it out!
