PARIS DAKAR PLAYBOY REPLICA 1979

If you have a look you will notice Val-H gave your bike an "Up"

Most of the people you are referring to above are fairly knowledgeable on airhead BMW's and most don;t have 1200s

As to leaving BMW sure isn't that what you are doing?

Your bike needs a bit of fettling and comes no where near a Dakar rep Sorry thats my opinion and I'n entitled to it

Now instead of complaining about the feckers we are why not trailer it down to the Airhead Weekend and let these same people help you with your bike instead of slating them off!

Hello all - I am the owner of that BMW R80 g/s replika!

I have been told that a group of sad lonely men have had nothing better to do than slate others peoples bikes - I must admit that VAL H pretending to be a buyer to see the bike to make fun is a bit low and juvenile. Come on you guys are suppose to be men and not children sending the paperboy to pose as a potential buyer is immature. I must admit you guys are good at realising that the bike is not standard - full marks! I suppose if a standard bike had a non standard sticker, then you'll criticize that too! I assume that you all own brand new 1200GS at £10K+ a shot - well lucky you - some people can not afford such luxury and have to make do with older non standard bikes which we have had to moth ball due to financial and family reasons! I suppose the weekly gang trip is to Poole - how sad! I suppose really I should be thanking you as if my bike was a new 1200GS then it would not cause so much stir. Go and make love to your bikes, sorry mean polish them! oh i forgot you are all sad single men wearing anoraks! Thanks to your posting, i have decided not to buy BMW and invest in Yamaha as they have a more friendly following. Have a nice life!

Welcome to UKGSer.............. but I think you've missed the point............

Val H lives close to you and came to have a look at your bike. I would like to think he gave a fair appraisal of your bike for all of us here interested in older BMs but who couldnt make the time to travel to Trowbridge to have a look.

This thread was started and posted in the Airhead section of the forum and although some may have more modern 1200GS' and the like, it is mainly for the folk who's interests are in the older bikes. To include the words 'GS' and 'Paris Dakar' in your description is so far from the truth that its bound to rile some genuine enthusiasts.

Take heart, if you like the style of the bike, keep it, fininsh the job off by extending the rear swing arm, remounting the rear shocks, fitting a more appropriate tank, sort out the seat and enjoy riding it. In the meantime, take up Proff's offer and come down to the Weekend with the bike and see some old Airhead BMWs, talk old Airhead BMWs and drink beer (but dont let Proff start you on the cider)

Oh dear

Listen young man, a couple of points you may like to consider. The airhead section is a place where real gs experts hang out. I very much doubt any here own a 1200 as I also doubt any would ride round in pairs pretending to be doing the lwd.
The fact is you put your bike up as a dakar rep and a gs when it's not, you also were a little optimistic on it's value. Now if you'd put it on eBay as a project bike with a starting price of say 500 you'd have had some bites.
The other thing to do would be to build the bike into something, all the guys here would be happy to give advice and help you build that bike into something special.
Last but not least, we're not sad old me we're a bunch of airhead nuts who do like to rip the piss, it's a bit harsh but always fun:D

Hello all - I am the owner of the BMW R80 g/s replika!

!

Hoisted by your own petard. :D

Thats where you've let yourself down. It's not a replica, it's just a tired old bmw with long front forks added. No anorak required for working that out. :D

And if you hadn't tried chancing it with an over the top advert and price on ebay someone here would most likely have bought it off you instead of bringing it to our attention for a laugh. :thumb

OK, I'd better reply as I started the thread.:)

I posted it up because it was a good example of ebay optimism and also to compare it to Sycos real PD bike.:)

As many others have said it is not a GS and it is not a Paris Dakar anything.

I have bought airheads much better than yours and much cheaper. Your original price was ludicrous for a bike sat for 8 years. Goodness only knows where you thought it was worth £1,500:eek:

It is worth £500. For that sort of money I have bought better bikes albeit that they also needed some money spending on them.

If you decide to keep it and MOT it and put it back on the road, then ride down here to my workshop either for the Airhead Weekend or some other time. We have three airheads being rebuilt at the moment so maybe we do know something about them. Most people on this section eat, live and breath airheads and are very helpful with any queries.

It was the over optimistic use of G/S, Paris Dakar and replica that got me.
As for owning a 1200GS, I wish. All my bikes are old a bit crappy and none of them came easily.
But I know that and never tried to pass them off as anything else.

exkayare - sorry you seem to be offended..

As others have said it's just a sense of humor thing.. just some banter and piss taking due to the over zelous claims and pricing of your bike.

Dakar rep.. er.. Dont think so.. As per my other post in this thread it's a much of a dakar replica as my bitza so I'd have been stunned if it had gone for 1500+ My bitza's done, running really well, mot'd and I doubt it's worth more than a grand (it cost more to build than it's worth)... But as people have said bikes are worth what someone will pay for them and you never know what someone might fall in love with.

As for 1200's that like swearing in here.. I've had an 1150.. and yes it's a nice bike (and I sometimes miss it's long legged ability).. but like 99% of the people in the airheads section I choose to ride an older/modified airhead because I love it.

Anyway.. if you decide to keep it great.. come join the fun.. if not enjoy your biking on whatever manufacturers machine you decide to trundle about on!

just to add on the 1200 bit...

You've got more chance of finding a pork pie in a synagogue than finding a R1200GS in my workshop.:D

Wow,

Ok I admit it. I own an R1200GS. There I've done it :P

Though I think Simon I told you this when I viseted you.

£10'400 if you really need to know. Bought it new in 2005. January actually.

It's the first bike I've ever bought new, only the second bike I've ever spent more than two grand on (For reference I've been riding bike inexcess of thirtyfive years). So you might understand it was a really big thing for me to have done.

I love it, the best bike I've ever owned too. I have absolutely no intension of selling it either. :rob

So, you ask, why do I frequent the hallowed pages of the Airhead forum?

My other half, SWMBO is the proud owner of a 1992 R100GS (modified so she can reach the ground) with twin plugs and gas flowed heads, plus a few other mods. Much admired it is too.

I too espire to one day be the proud owner of an Airhead BMW (One either very much like yours, or one with a sidecar attached). Hence my visit to look at your bike.

Unfortunately due to the economical climate, which you must surly appriciate. Cash is tight and the budget will only streach so far, and as I have already said. I have no intension of selling the 1200 to fund what will for now be a second bike used on sunny afternoons.

Now. If you'd like to take Proff up on his invitation to the Airhead weekend
http://www.ukgser.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=418

I might, might have some space (as my 1200 is not technicaly welcome at this event) in my trailer.

Val.

You boys are strange

You don't like the mint well built scrambler but you like this piece of shit cafe racer. I know the scrambler is A bit over priced but this bike was up for sale at alot higher price a week or so ago with another cafe racer. Both overpriced for what they are. Hey ho no accounting for taste:D

Well.................... we might think we know the value of things but it seems we dont know the cost.

I hope the seller is happy (and not too pissed off with us here) and the purchaser also.

'Nowt as strange as folk'
