A simple enquiry (so I thought); How much to put a pair of TKC80s on the F8000GS?
"Is that a motorbike or car?" was the reply. I guess the receptionist doesn't make minimum wage to have any kind of product knowledge but eventually I get through to the motorbike parts section.
They want to know my registration number, make (?) and model number of the bike. I get put on hold for bit...the guy comes back on "Do you know the rear tyre size? One guy here thinks its 130, someone else thinks its 150".
I don't know, I kind of hoped a BMW dealer would have some sort of reference for its own products.
"The rear tyre is £72.80". OK, so what about the front tyre? "Not in stock".
Right then...suppose you did have it in stock, how much would it be "They are £75". So the front is more than the rear? That's unusual. "No, they are both £75". But a moment ago it was £72.80. "Yeah they are both £75". Is that fitted? "No, that's just the tyres". Ok I asked how much to get them fitted, so how much is it? "I can't tell you, I'll just transfer you to service section".
Receptionist picks up and puts me back through to parts again. Eventually I get through to the service section.
"What is the registration numer?" So I tell her too. "What year plate is that?" Hmm, I thought the 08 part of the registration might give you a clue. "Is your bike on the system here?" No, I've not been there before. "Hold please..."
Much thumb-twiddling later..."do you know what size tyres they are?" Hmm well, the same size as the ones I asked for in parts. Does it make a difference to the price? "I have to see if they are in stock". I didn't ask if they are in stock, I asked how much to have them fitted. "I can't tell you how much they are if I don't know the sizes". I've just spent seven minutes on the phone with the parts section, they told me how much they are. I want to know from you how much its going to cost to put them on the bike.
"Hold please..."
"Ok, that should take less than an hour so the labour charge would be £68.54."
After FIFTEEN MINUTES they are finally able to tell me that the total cost of TKC80s on the bike at the BMW FLAGSHIP STORE is £256.78.
I don't know why I even asked. Should have gone straight to Essential Rubber...
