I have a whining/crackling noise through my ear monitors all the time when running the Autocom and GPS via bike power...apparently a common problem?. I have been told this is an earth loop problem and I require Part 1185? I take it this is an Autocom part although I cannot find a listing for it, but presume any dealer could supply though?

What is and what does Part 1185 do then and if the problem is so common why has the unit not been built with it already installed. I have the Kit 200 and both the Garmin Quest and a TomTom Rider 2 although as I have only used the Garmin so far this is the only unit I have experienced the problem on but presume the same problem would be on the TomTom as well.

Any advice would be welcome.

Cheers

No knowledge of that part number either. I would give autocom a call or await reply from GSRich - they will give good advice on what you need.

Just as a matter of interest I got the dreaded howl when I fitted a GPS due to both the unit and Autocom being bike powered. On re-routing the wiring away from electrical parts and going direct to the battery (via a switch so the GPS cradle was not permanently live), I eliminated the noise and now run the unit with only the basic (non-isolated) leads which came with the kit.

Well the units are used on a KTM 640 ADV and both the GPS's and the Autocom are not permanently wired in due to the fact that the 640 ADV offers virtually no space to hide the units and be hard wired. Both GPS's and the Autocom have their power cable fused and plug into the bikes AUX Din sockets (all AUX sockets on one circuit and permanently live). So the wiring can not readily be changed or re-routed.

OK, So it looks like it should be part 1285, forgive my ignorance but how does this connect in and cure my problem?

Cheers

Adie

The Part 1285 will plug into your AUX3 socket to begin with, the Part 1293/1294 that you should be running will plug into one of the sockets on the Part 1285

Lloyd.

No Problem, as a non-subscriber and an ex-one with history its not worth the hassle to follow the kind offer from Silver Rat up....feel free to purchase the item as I am already sorted now as my Bruv picked one up for me this afternoon at a local BWM dealer.

I'll take it if Nasty 1 doesnt want it.
PM me your address etc and I will send you a cheque,
Lloyd.

Does the 1285 lead have to go into Aux 3. Thats not the usual GS socket is it?
Lloyd.

Hi Lloyd, the Part 1285 will plug into the AUX3 socket if you are running an Active Plus or AUX4 on the Super Pro.
