PRE TRIP MEETING - Italia 08

Following on from the recent postings regarding Italia 08, I can confirm that a PROVISIONAL PRE-TRIP MEETING will be held on Sunday 24th Feb 08

At this meeting we will give an overview as follows:

· The trip on a day-by-day basis

· Transit across the channel & return

· When we are meeting and pre-transit accommodation

· Trip accommodation / options

· Expectations

· AOB

Please make a note of the above date and we will confirm a location closer to the day, but with plenty of notice.

The location will be set so the max number of GSer’s are able to attend.

For those who cannot make the meeting, a set of minutes will be issued which will highlight any questions raised and also deadlines etc.

As I have mentioned earlier, this trip rosta is not firm and final until after this meeting.

The point of this meeting is to confirm who, when and how.

Up until this stage, the trip is still open to all, and only after this meeting will a trip “CAP” be set which will reflect safely moving a large number of GSer’s across Europe.

Once this meeting has been held, then we will be booking accommodation, channel transit and also finalising routes, producing GPS files and road books.

Please will you confirm by email to my external address [email protected] that you will / will not be available to attend.

And then the countdown begins…

Regards

Hi there. Can you put me down for the "probables but not confirmed yet" group.
I've been wanting to go to Italy for a couple of years but the idle buggers i usually ride with have been coming up with lame excuses not to go.
Do you anticipate going anywhere near the Ducati factory at all?.
I'll do the PM bit tomorrow if i may.

Paul I see a career change ahead:)

What did you have in mind Jaber? Is Italy looking for a new president yet?

Hey Paul.
Let me know if you need anything, looking at it I think we shall charter a boat to get us all across the water!

Cheers Baron:bounce1:clap:bounce1

Do people have bike to bike intercom? I have 2 old walkie talkies that can connect to my autocom but I would be talking to me and one other cos it is so old nobody else is going to be on the same frequency.

I think quite a few (like me) will have autocom.. but usually to talk to SWMBO or listen to a bit of Vera Lynn :augie

Sounds like you could be talking to at least one of us :)

I was chatting to Major Gadet, and he also has bike to bike as do I. must remember to set them all to the same channel :)

Hello

Very interested, can you confirm places are still available for 1 solo rider?

:thumb2

Looking through this thread I've plotted a few 'interested' member's locations onto a map to try & guess where the pre-trip meeting may be.

It's only UK mainland posters who supplied a detailed location.

That's me far left! :augie

As I suspected. Newbury is slap bang in the middle. Shall I call the pub?:D

I'm looking at riding down to Dover on Friday 13th & staying a night in a Travelodge. They have 3 or 4 premises within a short riding distance of Dover (with parking).

There's no way I fancy riding 300 miles to Dover then riding another 340 miles on the other side. Done that before & it wasn't nice.

If anyone fancies the Travelodge option, pick a location & we could meet up/lock our bike together.

Canterbury Dunkirk or Canterbury Whitstable look OK at £29 a night.

Canterbury to Dover, 18 miles.

hook up

we will be traveling from wicklow eire, dont know wheather to take the spin to dover which is bout nine hours or meet up with ye in france which would be best
from a sore arse point of veiw , any suggestions welcome :aidan

Buchaill, I can offer you floorspace the night before in Newbury. It takes about 3 to 4 hours to get from newbury to the ferry. M25 permitting. Cost will be a packet of Tayto cheese and onion.
