"....after all its their own fault for having such a daft system!!!...." Yes, I hear it is much better on the M25 - you pay nothing and you don't move. that is fair enough.

after all its their own fault for having such a daft system!!!

Sure is a daft system, makes all the road users, road transport to and from Spain and Portugal and all the fecking tourists, pay something towards the roads rather than just us tax payers! Of course all the roads in UK are free paid for by the road fairy rather than the tax payer! :tosser

Just had another thought. The relationship between motorcyclists and other road users here is generally good, cars actually move into the gutter to let one pass. In UK a large number of car drivers seem to be very antibike. Judging by some of the comments on here we can see why!

As with Bob, I think that it is great that we don't pay road tax here and the tourists pay for the autoroutes. Saves me money anyway!

I pay road tax AND tolls to get out of Lincolnshire north and west :(

In one Shenzi. The French motorway system is excellent, as is much of the rest of France.

You want to use it to go quickly from A to B in a large country? Then you (mostly) have to pay a modest fee. Want to use it just to skirt large cities and towns, it's usualy free. The rest areas are, by-and-large good and the staff on the booths generaly polite and helpful.

Of course it's easy to act (or pretend) the macho, "I ran twenty bikes through the barrier without paying"...well, whoop whoop...don't then complain when the locals think we are all a bunch of tossers (small T).

I have experience of doing it right now.....feck em all.....I twat about for ages taking both gloves off to get the ticket and money often getting off the bike.....all the while the queue builds up behind me......:augie

Life's a bitch....you could be in Scotland....

Ever thought that by, 'Twatting about', you are simply delaying yourself, partly negating the time savings you made, chosing to take the Autoroute? Why not take the N and D roads? They are free, after all.

Need to rush?

Is it some kind of self-inflicted misery, to delay yourself, whilst twatting about for coinage to pay the tolls, then?

The wonderful thing is that despite all the haste and hurry of the autoroutes the French are very tolerant towards motorcyclists; they know that we have trouble getting our gloves off, getting out the ticket etc;etc. They will avoid following us into a queue if they can, otherwise they sit and wait patiently. No need therefore to get flurried. Relax and take your time and be sensible. Nobody will mind.

I have a Wunderlich handlebar bag, credit card and peage ticket in there, makes life very easy! One of the best, and cheapest, goodies I have on the bike.

Ah, the voices of sense.....

I have a TT bag. In it is a little velcroed pouch, just large enough to hold a credit card and peage ticket.

Hand the pouch, containing card and ticket to the charming lady at the barrier. She removes the credit card and ticket, swipes, puts the card and receipt back in the pouch and hands it back to me.

A swift, "Merci, bonne route" or a comment on the weather from madame and away I go...takes seconds.

There again, it it's so much more fun (and productive) to fume at the French and their motorway systems, fuel pricing, fuel availability, hotel structures and just about anything else..........making one wonder why people chose to go there in the first place.

I have started to notice that....they are very patient...
