PayPal Web Site?

Is it just me, but I cannot seem to log on to the PayPal web site?

I need to amend my credit card details but I cannot find a PayPal site that works?

Any thoughts what I can try next pls?

I hope you are not responding to an e-mail apparently from PayPal asking your for your credit card details. Because PayPal NEVER send out these e-mails, and so these e-mails are an attempt to steal your credit card details and steal your money.

Now, if you need to change your details (because you've got a different credit card or whatever), try typing http://www.paypal.com into your web browser's address bar. That way you can be sure that you are going to PayPal directly.

Be careful, it's a jungle out there.

The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

That's not good. Try either of the links posted by Greg. If they don't work, then I would check your hosts file. Sounds complicated, but it's not really.

I'm presuming you're running Windows.

Go to your Windows directory. On windows 2000 this is called C:\WINNT, on Windows XP this is called C:\Windows

Now, in the subdirectory system32\drivers\etc\ there is a file called hosts. Open this file with notepad, it's just a text file. See if you can see an entry that looks like this:

127.0.0.1 www.paypal.com

The number might be totally different from 127.0.0.1, but if it's there, it will be a sequence of four numbers separated by dots.

If you do find this in your hosts file, comment it out by placing a # in front of that line.

Now try again. And scan your system for viruses, trojans and other nasties, as your machine may have been compromised.

NEVER EVER EVER use a link to a banking site - you may be lead to someone's spoof site.

Alway key in the address yourself. EG w w w . p a y p a l . c o . u k (which will take you to the correct address).

Not if your machine has been compromised by a virus or other nasty as per kropotkin's post above. Your computer uses your ISP's DNS resolver to convert the address you enter into a computer address a.k.a an IP address. Your computer always uses this IP address and never the proper address to access websites. Your computer itself holds a file which can override your ISP, leading you to goto the incorrect place even if you tap in the address yourself.

It is less likely though that you will get the padlock symbol in your browser, or at the very least you will perhaps get a message about the validadity of the web pages security certificate.
