I had a ride out last weekend on the following lanes, Youtube video for an idea of the type of lanes.

The GPX is attached for this route, happy to go along if anyone fancies doing this route sometime. Houndkirk road is great fun !

Standard disclaimer applies, reasonable tyres needed and the Gopro can flatten the landscape slightly making it appear a bit easier.

Another lovely big-bike suitable Peak district trail ride yesterday (we had a Tiger 900, a Himalayan and two CRF300s). Usual caveats around tyres, ability and checking legality of lanes. There is a little bit of singletrack at the start of this, but that's just to warm you up on a cold winters day ! Watch the erosion on the Chatsworth lane as the ruts caused can catch you out, and don't be tempted to blast through the big puddles on Flash lane (or any lanes) as you never know whats in the bottom of them !

PS. Is that a Garmin XT you’re using to navigate? I was under the impression it wasn’t really suited for off road but that looks fine

Hey @g00ner , I tend to use my phone now with OS maps app for off-road, which is what I use to record the routes. There is an annual subscription (about £35) for 'premium' that gives you the Topgraphic maps you need, but I've found this much better than the XT for trails. 👍

Lovely bit of video footage taken and a lovely day for sure.
I am taking a lad out next week for some "learning"
I will checkout some little trails I know and see if they are still open for you to add to yer knowledge

I’ve used my XT offroad extensively and works fine.
I use OSM-based maps.

It’s just not happy if too much water is involved, but that’s a limit of most capacitative touch screens. The 64s I use on the other bike is obviously more resilient in those cases.

I used to run OSMand on a Samsung Galaxy. Can you run additional apps on an XT? I know it’s probably been answered elsewhere but eastmidsbiker looks to be doing ok with it

You cannot run other apps on the XT, but you can load different maps.

(Mod, if you want split the thread)

I use some OSM-based maps with rights of way indicated both on my XT and 64s. You can transfer them on the XT via USB and switch via the settings menu under map layers. They are not routable, but you only use tracks when offroad, so no issues there.
I use the same maps (on the 64s) when on my DRZ400 or when hiking.

And before someone complains about the original mount... I have a fair amount of crashes on camera where it stays defiantly in its place :D :D :D

It's good. It works ;)

Another short GPX.

I popped up to the wilds of Lincolnshire on Sunday for a short route that someone suggested. I joined some enduro guys meeting at Willingham Woods layby but left them after I got cold feet on one of the challenging lanes for me and my Tiger. This GPX does not include that lane, and is completely big bike suitable. The only one hazard that needed some care was the ford which I've included a video below so you get see it and choose, but there is an easy ridearound for this on the map via Tealby. If you do the ford, keep right (going North).

Below is the lane where I bottled it, as you needed to stay in the middle and was just too slippy, the rut on the left was just overgrown further down (again, not in this GPX).

Had a cracking day today on some easy lanes in Derbyshire, ideal for ADV bikes.

GPX file enclosed, but very happy to take anyone out one weekend. Cold fingers, but dry weather and I can't tell you how much fun I had today on these lanes. If you have an ADV bike and want to get off road, these were the perfect lanes for it.

In one part of the GPX near Chatsworth (Edensor lane ?) I go up and down it several times, just ignore that as I was helping someone and their bike get up it.

Will be out in the Peaks tomorrow, starting at Buxton around 9am with the aim to complete a Rallymoto roadbook before dark, if I get out of bed at a decent time . If anyone wants to tag along, just let me know.

Awesome day out today doing the Rallymoto Peaks Icebreaker route. A little ice on the roads first thing and it was perishing cold with freezing fog later in the afternoon. During the middle bit it was lovely though ! There was just two of us, but unfortunately the Himalayan had a tubed puncture and he decided to limp home early on.

You think you're doing well taking your heavy ADV bike on byways and then bump into a couple coming the other way on a casual two up ride out with luggage on an even bigger bike (y).

I'm thinking (weather dependant) of going out Friday and repeating a Rallymoto Peaks navigation route starting at Buxton (I had some technical problems last time, and also got a bit lost later in the route in Tideswell). Will be an earlyish start (9am) so let me know if you are interesting in tagging along :).

Lovely relaxed day out today on the Peaks Rallymoto route, no penalty points and hit all the waypoints. A flask of coffee and some sandwiches were all that I needed along with my camelbak for water (and Sainsbury's for fuel). On my todd so could just please myself and ride to my own pace.

I've recorded the route as a GPX file so if anyone fancies doing this route when the weather improves just let me know.
