Peaks byways route - big bike suitable with suitable tyres - GPX file enclosed.

Thetford Forest today, 300 mile round trip and some very slippy lanes. I'm quite cautious if I'm on my own and this slows me down a bit. I've lost confidence in my worn rear tyre (Mitas XT Trail+ Dakar) as it was just spinning and sliding on cambers, so that's getting changed before I go out again. Not sure what with yet.

New heated gloves for the early morning journey there were great (7:00 start as it's 2 hours each way and finished by 3:30 for the 2 hour slog back). A hastily made jam and cheese sandwich, a now dented flask of coffee, a bar of chocolate and a banana were all I needed.

Fabulous day as you have to concentrate on the navigation and picking your line in the slippy lanes which means you are too occupied to worry about all those daily life worries. North Yorkshire next, anyone fancy tagging along ?

I’ll give that a go if it’s a weekend jaunt.

OK, so North Yorkshire Icebreaker next, provisional planning on the Sat15th Feb or possibly Friday 14th. Meet point is W3W.co/ivory.firewall.upsetting.

Will aim to start about 9am, so just need to work out what time I need to leave Notts, probably about 6:30am unless I decide to stop over somewhere for the night.

I might end up joining a small group if I go Saturday, mainly as I know there is a river crossing in this and dont fancy doing that solo.

Let me know if you fancy tagging along ! It will be about 140km and typically about 60/40 road/trails.

Thanks for sharing the video - will definitely have to get over to Thetford for a proper explore.

Don’t suppose you kept a GPX of the route that the roadbook took you?

I’ve been meaning to sign up with Rally Moto since I spoke to them at the ABR - will crack on with it I think!

I didnt record the Thetford route, as I couldn't imagine going there again for this specific route. If you use OS maps its pretty easy to find the byways, and some of the lanes were just nadgery lanes that I wouldnt have bothered with. There are a few wonderfully long and large lanes in Thetford with lots of whoops in them, so its great fun and easy to find those lanes.

New tyres acquired, but wondering if I'm being a bit too eager to change them. Im going to air down the rear a bit more (factory 42, I've been running at about 32, but will try going down to 25 just to see if that improves things). I'm also going to get the front flipped by my local tyre guy (will take in loose wheels) as the tyres are bi-directional and have worn on one edge.

I also have some new knobblies ready to go on, which I'll put on in the coming weeks... Mitas Enduro Trail XT for the rear (non Dakar) and Enduro Trail XT+ for the front. (I have an XT+ on the rear at the moment which in theory is a bit softer than the XT, but as the only variant they do for my 17 inch rear is a Dakar version this has especially hard tyre walls. Whilst the Dakar version is unlikely to get a puncture I'm really not happy with it.

I’ll still be on holiday, maybe next time.

A really nice lane for big bikes near Matlock, and at 4 minutes a reminder for me to be able to stop in the distance that is clear to see... (and that the CT125 doesnt have ABS on the rear).

Looks like a nice little lane. Thanks for posting. Do you have the coordinates for that?

There may be a short interruption to service, as the Tiger has been sold and being picked up Friday unless it falls through.

Of course, this is the Tiger that last Saturday you said you'd never sell. :augie

Look forward to watching the trip up to Yorkshire on the 'ickle' Honda.

The scoot has gone already , It's in Northern Ireland in Coleraine which I know because I forgot to take off an airtag. As much as I like a challenge I think 8.7bhp going up the A1 would have been a bit tedious.
