February meet

Saturday 28th February, meet up at the cafe at Calver Crossroads, calver in the Outside Shop at 1100, then have a jaunt round the the hope valley area, a run up past Ladybower ..(the road up the Valley is open on Saturday!) and lunch at the Strines Inn! There are a few nice tracks in the area for those so inclined.’

The grid reference for all you GPS types and OS Map readers is SK239748 - the junction of A623 and B6001.

The suggestion for lunch is the Strines Inn SK 223907 - its on an incredible small road that runs north from the A57 between Ladybower and Sheffield. Really nice country pub, good beer and food. If you can give me an idea of numbers I will book us some space for around 2ish…

Route wise – a good run round the back lanes of the Peak – we can take in a couple of very easy GS able byways – nothing too challenging if you would like. Swing round through Castleton, Winnets, Edale, up the Upper Derwent and then to the pub… lots of options from there.

Should be a good day out – good roads, scenery and a nice pub. Good for brownie points if you bring SWBOs!

Usual offer holds…if anyone wants to stop over to make a weekend of it there is space at my place in Eyam and a night in the Stags.

See you all next weekend

Its also the Rainbow rideout day, have any plans been made to meet up with the 30 or so from Rainbow, contact Sherpa.

Just had a look at the forecast. Ideal biking weather!

Anyone got any snowchains?

Hardy souls!

Well the weather aint briilant....but it looks a bit better for saturday...still fu**king cold but I dont think we are going to get much snow!

Suppose we will have to play it by ear! But the inaugral Peaks meet was in the white fluffy stuff...so whats stopping us!

had a mail from Shaun at Rainbow...they are postponing until next month!

I will be down at Calver at the appointed time...any ice should be long gone by lunch time....so see anyone that makes it then!

Immortal words...will probally a foot of snow and rising! TKC...

see you then!

Gavin

Anyone still going from the Nott's area, if so let me know and we could meet up on the way.

Cheers,
Kev

Should have been going with the Rainbow ride out but looks like thats not happening now.
If the weather is ok on Saturday can we just turn up or do we need to give notice?
I realise that I'll not get lunch at the pub but I'll probably cope with a mars if it means getting out.
If it has snowed like they are hinting or is really icy then I suppose moto gp on the x-box will need dusting off.

oi mark....

vetted requests with 4 references before turning up...
we are the exclusive area! only fully trained acrobats with curvy assistants allowed!!!!

ok....anyone can come...just turn up and pub will be no problem...they are aware we are coming but wont book.

Should be a good day....glorious today!

See you at Calver at 11...

Anyone wanting to do a weather check here...feel free to give me a ring 07939 135064

cant do the splits any more but i've got a few bumpy bits... can i still come?? (if its not snowing of course)

I've come down with a dose of the Oreintal SARS strain of Chinese Chicken ManFlu.

Looks doubtful for saturday unless it's in the low sixties with a moist north easterly and two Oktars.

Could come in the motor, but you'd never catch me on the dirt:D

See you satdy (maybe)

Back to my sickbed now:beerjug:

The Pub was smashing.................going back with her indoors to get a few brownie points. I'm overdrawn after clearing off again today round Lincolnshire :(

Sorry I couldn't make it, looking at the snow a wise move.

Did ye have a nice day then?

When's the next one?

Good excuse this.....

Sorry guys and gals, couldn't make the ride out due to some hard negotiations with a certain motorcycle dealer. I bought an Africa Twin, at least I bought one on Saturday morning, only to have grave doubts later in the evening when I got hold of the last registered owner (this was supposed to be a 2 owner only machine)who was extremely helpful, he took the trouble to phone me back, and he was a slightly concerned guy when he found out where (the area)I was buying in, he'd part/x'd it in Wakefield Honda centre and had never heard of... ahem...this large dealership who had told me it was a two owner only bike. Trouble was there was a third person who had never registered the bike in their name, done a deal with them to buy a bike using the AF as p/x so I bailed out not wanting to get mixed up with a bike of uncertain parentage.

So thats why I'm not cleaning great chunks of industrial strength salt from me bike, and me kits nice and clean to, and I'm sitting in my counting house counting out my money!

Hope you all had more luck than I did.

GUTTED!

Sorry couldn't make it chaps.
Got bike out and found it was as dead as a dodo.
This is the first winter that I've had a company car and not used to leaving the bike for a few weeks unused.
Borrowed a mates charger and even after 24 hours charging only just started. Don't know if the battery is knacked or what.
Think I need to invest in an Optimate or similar or jack the job and bum around on the bike all the time.
Rebooked with Shaun for the March 20th ride out from Rainbow so hope to see some of you on that.

Andy

Stupid toss*r

Spot the idiot in this picture! But made it all the way to the bottom upright!

And after I had decided earlier that discretion was the best part of valour! Cheers to ian for the pic!

Well summer will be here soon!

Gavin,

Thanks for the memorable day, and its good to see the photo shows me and the big Ausie lad helping mike back up the hill as opposed to five minutes earlier when two guys had to help me turn around and make it back to solid ground (sorry but I don’t know which one of you lads helped me, but I was busy stalling the thing and burning my clutch out to catch who was pushing)

Your mate with the 650 (big beard) was a star and new exactly what to do when we ended at the top of the hill and you and the mad Ausie ended up at the bottom, a good tail man. Thank him the next time you see him. Casey the aforementioned antipodean managed to go down it twice and up it once on his Honda, the bike looked small till I sat on it.

Also a quote from the pub I didn’t think I would remember but I did. 6’ 7” of Australians finest, finishes his meal and announces he’s “fuller than a fat ladies sock” to a room of ramblers and families. Priceless.

Thanks again.

I was mooching about the house on Satdy in me bathrobe, thinking "what a tosser, shoulda gone"

Just seen the photos, changed me mind:D

Was the intention to go up or down the hill?
