Mr mod if you think this fits better in GS mods or Comm's feel free to shift it!

Well messed about trying to fit my Autocom on the new LC, and due to the added modules under the rear seat for the dynamic break light and the lean assist braking thingamabob it won’t fit there anymore.

Read some threads about putting it in the rear section against the brake light but don’t fancy that due to access to fiddle with it and waterproofing.

Had it fitted in a handlebar bag, too easy to wip off the bike, and on long tours with the bag getting wet you started to hear a crackling as the damp started to get in.
So decided on this, for now.

Already had a Touratech Aluminium luggage rack fitted so decided to use this to mount a Pellicase, The idea being I still want to be able to remove the box quickly and also have the Autocom detachable.

Drilled out 4 of the 6 pop rivets in the Touretech luggage rack with a 5.5mm HSS bit and tapped out both the aluminium and stainless steel holes at 6mm. Fitted M6x20mm stainless steel screws with a blob of loctight on each.

Then fitted an ½ rubber tap repair washer over each screw, to give a bit of anti vibe and good waterproof seal.

Pellicase fitted with 4 stainless steel penny washers and Nyloc Nuts, plus IP rated 20mm stuffing gland in the base for the Autocom connections for under the pillion seat.

Autocom and radio Velcro fitted in to the Pellicase, with plenty of room to carry all the crap I carried on the GSA like tool kit, puncture repair kit, pump, first aid kit. (Ok leads need a bit of tidying up yet).

Autocom can just be unplugged and removed, I use an Autocom 2432 bike powered PTT lead with filter.

The box and Autocom can be taken off in 5 minutes, using the same 4 studs any size box you want can be fitted.

This is a really nice/neat job.

On my RT I have the same set-up but with everything on the bike. The Autocom fits under the rear rack and the 2-way radio under the rear seat.

Did you opt for the Pelivcase route because there's less room on the GS?

Yes no room to fit the unit in the bike, I had loads of room for the same unit under the seat when I had my RT.:beerjug:

Changed my mind, decided I don't want the box on the back so came up with this alternative mount, using an aluminium instrument case under the existing BMW luggage rack.

The box is big enough to fit an SPA the Bluetooth module and my Gizmo2 for sound output to the camera.

All connections again come out of the Autocom and through the stuffing gland and plug in under rear seat.

This is a tight fit, it's also 10mm longer than I wanted so just cut 10mm of the casing, fitted with the slide in extrusion to the bottom, to get it under the rack I had to slacken off the two Torx 40 retaining bolts, bit of heavy duty double sided waterproof adhesive tape and tighten it back up, solid.

Access to the Autocom is then from the back of the rack with 4 small Philips, so you can get at the unit to fiddle with.

Just pulled it all out to prove it.

Tight fit, also watch the power connection on to the Bluetooth module, also careful where you put the stuffing gland, if you want to put the pillion seat on high you need it down low to the side of the enclosure.

Could you give me the size and source of the instrument case please.

A neat job.

Any thoughts to mounting the aerial - externally on the enclosure? (I can't see the aerial on the radio)

My radio is mounted up front on a ram mount off of the instrument cluster, you won't fit a radio (not a Kenwood anyway) inside the enclosure.

Made a modification this morning, as I said in the write up above its a tight fit, especially if you put the pillion seat on high (slightly further back), replaced the stuffing gland with a 20mm blind grommet, nothing sticking out from the enclosure now so no pressure on the cables as the seat clicks in. I was worried over time that the pressure on the cables could cause a compression fault, so got rid of the risk, with regards waterproofing don't think it will make a big difference, and also makes it easier to pull the Autocom out of the back when you want to twiddle with it.

Thanks for all that:beerjug:.
I need to mount my Intaride Hawk somewhere, and was considering the Wunderlich bag that fits under the rack, but this setup looks alot better.:thumb2

A very neat job indeed but can I ask what advantages are there to using an Autocom system, or similar over using a blue tooth Cardo. or similar set-up.
I have rider/pillion Cardo, music, phone, Sat Nav and a bluetooth Bike to bike radio which works fine and also works on any bike I ride as the small radio sits in my pocket with the Cardo on the helmets

Hi Adrian

I would love to have a reliable Bluetooth solution if I'm honest, I just haven't been able to make the tech work reliably for me, invested In a pair of Scala Packtalk about six month ago, due to Bluetooth connection on Nav 5. But first Autocom

The things I really like about Autocom over Bluetooth are side tones, you can hear when the units working. Secondly I can export sound from the Autocom to both Drift and Gopro cameras.
Thirdly its a reliable bike to bike system with PMR radio.
Finally nothing to charge on an evening.

If I could sort the above out ( not necessarily the side tones that's just something I have got used to hearing over the years) then I would jump at Bluetooth.

What Bluetooth radio are you using, in fact any help on a reliable Bluetooth set up would be appreciated.

I should add I have an early Inerphone tribe Bluetooth radio that I haven't been able to get working reliably either?

Cheers Griff
