does putting a chip in really make abig difference i am told they add about 3 hp i already have a remus and Y piece i would be gratefull for any advice bob

I also assume you're talking about an 1150GS, and not a 1100 or 1200.
I've got a Y-piece and (had) a Remus on mine and found a marked difference in the mid-range with this set-up. A Techlusion R259 chip was added and this again added to the already-impressive mid-range torque, making even easier and more enjoyable to ride. It also cured a feeling that it was running 'lean' around 4000-5000 rpm. Recommended.

might be worth doing a search as i seem to remember that a simple jumper cable can change the fuelling/ignition mapping??? I think steptoe was the fountain of knowledge on this one

Where do you get these Techlusion chips from? And, is it simply a case of plugging them in somewhere or do you need to get the bike dynoed etc? I guess I'm asking is it a DIY job or do you need to get others involved?

Suppliers: TTS, Northampton (tts-performance.co.uk), or the usual suspects: Motobins, Motorworks, Sherlocks. If all else fails, phone the importers Performance Parts at Rugby for your nearest dealer.
Plug and play, for the most part. Dead easy DIY job, but make sure you get the Techlusion R259 which is specifically for R series bikes 'cos it has a BWM connector already on it - no splicing or soldering needed.
The suggested settings are fairly close, in my opinion, but I do intend to get the bike dynoed at some stage to set it up properly.
