Hey ,

I have been reading the threads in particular the knowledge base, which is great... 4 of us are off to Morocco next month and I just rang my World Wide Travel Insurance to ask If i would be insured for "Off Road" riding, and I got told NO

They said I would be covered in any country provided I was on tarmac, had a helmet on and had a full UK bike licence for 3+ years.

So my question is where do I get personal insurance to cover off road riding in Morocco from ?

Im looking around now I just tried http://www.worldwideinsure.com/ and there policy is the same

I doubt you're going to get that kind of cover from a 'Travel' insurance provider. Especially not a cheapo one like you quoted.

Try Googling "off road travel insurance". Will take you to varous links and forum.

It would have to be an auto-sport specialist or some such.

Guarantee that wherever you find the cover, it'll cost a fortune.

Yeah im starting to see that

oh well

I jut tried >> www.hctravel.com as it says they do motorbike off road personal insurance, and they were very nice on the phone, but they only covered "organised parties" run by "official clubs"

So you cant insure 4 blokes going as a party ?? :JB

hehe

Basically they won't insure you to act like an eejit.
4 blokes on dirt bikes in Morocco....well, you know the rest.

I would have thought that the trails you would be riding are not "offroading" but in fact roads that are just not tarmaced yet
They are roads though - as were the "roads and lanes" we did tuther week
you need insurance and vehicle mot etc. for these "offroading routes"
I would have thought also unless you were daft enough to admit going wild riding
on a mountainside - off any trail - only then you would be uninsured, or in a rally/race as well
HTHY and have a great trip :thumb2

Yeah Im getting it now Mick, thanks for the reply :D

Spoken with the the others and they are in agreement that we wont be doing stupid mad stuff (I wasn't intending on doing stupid mad stuff either), just exploring and mainly tarmac roads with the odd gravel track here and there, but I get what your saying makes perfect sense TBH

I used Navigator http://www.navigatortravel.co.uk/

When I spoke to them about the road surface they said that so long as a trail was what passed for a road in whichever part of the world then they would cover 'touring' i.e. using a M. bike as transport.

Another thing to be aware of is that some travel insurance companies - mainly those aimed at the mainstream tourist market - only cover travel with pre-booked accommodation.

Navigator operate mainly for gap year travellers and so this doesn't bother them.
