just incase some of you are as bumb as me :aidan

while doing some work on my RT i thought as its sunday id start having a couple of beers as it was 12.30pm on a sunday. i wanted to get the bike running today after a few maintenance jobs and in my haste i forgot to put the petrol pipe balance pipe in. I'm renewing it but after i fitted the carbs i spied a hole and realised i hadnt put the poxy bit of pipe in before bolting the air box down :blast:blast:blast
its my pet hate bolting down the air box as its so akward:mad::mad:

anyway i decided very quickly that was the last thing i wanted to do was to strip it all back down again :comfort:comfort

i found a nice piece of bamboo and pushed it through under the air box , taped up the new pipe to it and pulled it through without the drama of taking the air box off :thumb

well i was happy with my bamboo fix, other stix or grasses may work to if out in the field adventure riding :pullface

have you got a worse piece of airhead to take off ???

Nice one Tom, Airhead airbox I feckin hate that left hand Allen bolt in front of the rubber thinges ,Jeez am havin palpatations just thinking of them ,Ill have a go of the bamboo snake.(was the hose you used braided by chance).:pullface

Wait till you got to change your driveshaft gaitor ,it would be easier wrastling an Alli gaitor,:beerjug::beer:

oh god yeah i hate that too :pullface thats reminded me ive still got to put the new fork gaiters on and fork boots things in the faring :comfort:blast:blast

I tried for a while to get the new fat gaiter over the fork leg but the poxy thing needs a zip on it or velcro !! ill be glad when all the jobs are done an i can just enjoy riding it :D

:beerjug:

yes the hose was braided :D and why is all that gubbins in the air box ???? the propella bit and the tube ! whats the point ?

:thumb

drive shaft gaiter is easy ,provided as kenny says ,you have the drive shaft perfectly level.
i put one on peepingtoms rt ,before i sold it ,as i put it on the driveshaft wasnt level and i was there for about 5-10 mins trying to get it on ,i did level the drive shaft first ,but when i stepped back to look it wasnt perfectly level ,so another piece of wood under the wheel ,and then it just slid on .
make sure its perfectly level before you start, and you will have no problems .

Timely bit of advice, thanks for that!

looks 10x better imho along with lots of other bits painted too and a few jobs done and money spent :thumby: looking forward to getting the lasts bits done and on the road again:clap:clap

ill post some pictures when its done so you can regret selling it and put some of those rice burners up for sale and get yourself a proper quality machine :D

That's why I bought a Guzzi.:P

Come on then, post some photos?:P

im riding it but can't fit those pesky rubber boots that fit in the fairing so may cut the fuckers off as I'm not taking the forks out again :blast

i can't post them as I'm a numpty , ill send you a couple if you like . pm me your e mail:thumb

You could take off the uneccessary oil cooler and piping and revert it back to pre oil cooler style :thumb2

That's interesting...

I presume it's been done before and it doesn't lead to overheating problems if the bike's used, say, off-road in the summer?

Is it just a case of sourcing a new filter cover plate, without the oil cooler take-off and return, or is there an internal modification that's required too? Does it use the same filter if it's de-coolered?

I was going to apologise for hijacking the thread, but I can't remember what the thread was originally about anyway... :D

Poke a long screwdriver throught the hole, fit one end of the pipe onto it, and push the pipe and pull the screwdriver. :D

Be careful. The spigot inside the oil filter chamber is a different length between the oil cooler and non cooler. You'll need to change those as well.
