WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON,
PRICES ARE RISING BY THE HOUR AND NOBODY BATS AN EYELID , WHY CAN'T WE AS BIKERS[A LARGE GROUP] START BY BOYCOTTING THE BIG SUPPLIERS, IE GARAGES AND USE SUPERMARKET PETROL ONLY, SURELY THEY WILL NOTICE IF WE DON'T FILL OUR BIKES OR CAR UP.
If this was FRANCE THERE WOULD BE A REVOLUTION
REMEMBER AS CONSUMERS WE HAVE THE POWER TO CHANGE THINGS IF WE STICK TOGETHER
GOVERMENT WHO YOU AND i VOTED IN DON'T GIVE A MONKEYS AS THEY COLLECT MORE TAX THE MORE IT COSTS,
IF YOU AGREE REMEMBER YOUR HONEST MP'S EXPENSES/FIDDLE AND VOTE THE BA,,,,S OUT

1200GS tardis;)

Thing is, we moan but in the end we still pay the prices, use the same amount of fuel and have to keep buying the bloody stuff.

We may switch suppliers or refuse to fuel up on a certain day etc, but they've got us over a barrel (excuse the pun) cos we'll still use as much in the week.

I find the price of fuel really quite reasonable considering the effort and care taken to produce it. :D

this email is doing the rounds............ :rob I dont know the truth of it but nice people power theory :D

PETROL PRICES - PLEASE READ AND JOIN!!!
Category:
Common Interest - Activities
Description:
The price of oil is as low as it has been for a while, the oil
companies have simply jacked their prices up and the government will
not do anything as they rake in extra VAT for every increase.

See what you think and pass it on if you agree with it

We are hitting 114.9 a litre in some areas now, soon we will be
faced with paying 1.50 a ltr. Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea:

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don't buy petrol on a certain
day campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies
just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt
ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to
us than it was a problem for them. BUT,whoever thought of this idea,
has come up with a plan that can really work.

Please read it and join in!

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned
us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take
aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the market place
not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we
consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the
price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not
purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.
Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two
biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP.

If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to
reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies
will have to follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach
literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to
do!!

Now, don't wimp out at this point... keep reading and I'll explain
how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send it
to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at
least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the
message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached
over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and
pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been
contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it... ..

THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all.
(and not buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If each of us
sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all
300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next
8days!!! Acting together we can make a difference . If this makes sense
to you, please pass this message on.

PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 90p a LITRE
RANGE

It's easy to make this happen. Just join this group and get all
your FB friends to join or forward as an email to everyone in your
address book, and buy your petrol at Shell, Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys,
Morrisons Jet etc. i.e.. boycott BP and Esso

I passed an esso this morning and they was queing to get in I guess not everyone got the email:augie

We could always do what the frenchdo block the ferries and burn some sheep:thumb

May be a stupid question but where do the Supermrket garages get their Petrol from?

It's not stupid, Morrisons gets it from the Jarrow refinery. I believe that is B.P owned. :rob

The idea that the buyer controls the price is ridiculous when there is so much demand and so few suppliers.

Approx 3/4 of the price of every litre is due to government fuel duty and VAT. Rather than boycotting any fuel retailers we should really be blaming the Government and lobbying MP's to force a change of tax policy.

Fuel taxes are a huge earner for the Treasury due to the steadily rising extra tax rises which suddenly appears but are often mistakenly blamed on the oil companies or rising crude oil prices.

Ever notice how the Treasury & Budget announces tax rises such as changes to Fuel duty which will come into effect at a future date i.e some months after the general public have collectively forgotten that the price rise was due to the Chancellor. Not just a stealth tax but a deceitful ploy to avoid being held to account by the electorate.

Price of oil is not low, it's a fairly healthy $80 per barrel.
This is necessary for three main reasons;
It provides an incentive to develop alternatives;
It provides a healthy profit for reinvestment into new oil fields;
It keeps my day-rate up.

Current high petrol price is due to low refinery capacity and some speculation.

I wouldn't recommend using the supermarkets exclusively.
Most local petrol stations are francises.
The Oil companies gettheir share regardless of where you buy it (it all comes from the same place)
Exclusively using supermarkets is like boycotting your corner shop to force down the price of beans.
All that will happen is more local filling stations will close.
Well, we've lost loads in recent years - I don't want to have to drive 10 miles to fill up.

I agree it is on the high side but there is a fair bit you can do.

The VAST majority of what you are paying at the pump is tax - Write to your MP - asking for Gordon to cancel the imminent 3p/litre tax hike on the grounds that it will stifle growth.
Check your tyre pressures.
Take that bloody roof rack off.
Use a light right foot.
Wash your car (no really, a clean car is a smooth car).

But, of course, the best of all...........use the bike more !

<snip>

For the rest of this year DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two
biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP.

A few people on a local bike site have been circulating this chain e mail and then got all precious when it was pointed out to them that it was a load of bollocks

1) Esso and BP are not the same company as Esso is part of the US owned Exxon Mobil whereas BP is part of the UK owned BP PLC

2) Esso and BP are not the biggest oil companies, in fact they are WAAAAY down the pecking order compared to the assorted arab companies that occupy the top ten to fifteen slots.

Esso is ranked 17th

BP PLC is ranked 19th

Both are insignificant in terms of oil production with figures around 20,000 million barrels a year compared to the top companies producing 300,000 million barrels a year EACH.

Shell/Royal Dutch (funnily enough a Dutch owned company) are shown as 22nd so need to catch up a bit so maybe they started off the e mail :D

Whinge at the government as they are the ones hammering the taxation

Ill use the cheapest petrol station, which happens to be Shell.

£1 a litre cheaper than the other station around ere all the time.

£1.15 a litre for unleaded now.

ugg

jEEZ that other forecourt must be empty of cars if its a £1 dearer....:augie

Well someone is making quite a bit of profit (and not just the Govt), I work for a large organisation and we have just been told not to use our vehicles fuel cards at the forecourt pumps because of the prices..................
We now have to use the pumps at our places of work because the organisation is getting its fuel delivered for 88.5p per litre whether it be unleaded or diesel.
Thats 25p per litre cheaper than any of the local garages

:ronno,,,well,,,,,you got to keep taxing us honest hard working folk,,,,,,whats left of us that is....save for your future they told me when i first started work and so i did ,,,now i just get taxed for being a saver....so sod it,,,,,i spend the lot now and enjoy my life.......the country is filling up with no hope families and there kids,,,,all wanting hand outs from our hard earned taxes and its going to get worse........:rob

SO TRUE:thumb2

In the past month, Brent crude has fallen $14/barrel and today its $73/barrel !

Asda has announced a 2p-a-litre reduction in the cost of its petrol and takes effect Today, the cut will take Asda petrol prices down to 115.9p a litre, while its diesel will drop 1p to 118.9p a litre.

The news came as the AA said that average UK petrol prices, which reached an all-time record of 121.61p a litre last week, had stabilised for the first time since late February.

The UK price of petrol dipped to 121.54p a litre on Monday, while the average diesel price is now 122.94p a litre, but the AA said UK fuel prices should have gone down by more, as the wholesale price of petrol in north-west European had fallen of late.

AA added: "The failure so far to pass on wholesale petrol price cuts is leaving hard-pressed drivers feeling short-changed at the pumps".

"Fuel is an unavoidable and essential purchase for drivers and many would prefer to see pump prices come down instead of having to go to the next town for cheaper prices or having to qualify for savings, such as spending £50in store first."

"Last week, a co-ordinator for volunteer drivers phoned the AA to say that high fuel prices were threatening an exodus”.

"She had recently been contacted by her local ambulance trust asking to borrow volunteer drivers for hospital runs because many of theirs had given up. That is why the AA asks fuel retailers to pass on savings if they can."

Lets see if the new Con-Dem team do something to break this fuel retail cartel that exists, but under labour was ignored as Gordon squeezed it for all the tax he could get !
