Petrol reserve light permanently on - what have I done?

I gave my 1150 a 24k service yesterday. I took the petrol tank off intending to replace the fuel filter but abandoned it when I realised that I'll need some new hose clips to replace the "one use" only ones that are used. I'd got as far as removing the six nuts holding the panel that has all of the gubbins mounted onto it and I withdrew the panel as far as I could to expose the hoses. I then repositioned the big O ring and screwed it all back into place and refitted the tank. Now I have a permanent petrol warning light there is plenty of petrol in the tank and I have sprayed WD40 in the electrics connector block on the RH side just incase that was the problem.

I will be getting the necessary replacement clips this week and I will remove the tank again next weekend to fit the new filter.

So what have I fecked up What do I need to look at when I get at the gubbins again next weekend; over to the collective wisdom

You've bent the float arm so it's stuck - or you've put the pump and cover back a bit cackhanded, again trapping the float arm, usually against the side of the tank, or the pump filter unit.

Or worse - you've knocked the buoyant part off the arm

Or you could have replaced the panel in the wrong position, i.e. further clockwise or anti clock wise.

There's a small flat section on the cover. this lines up with an indent in the tank shape.

YOu could wiggle a bit of 1/4 inch fuel hose down the right hand side of the tank and try and dislodge the float thing???

if it's jammed

JUst don't go mad and end up breaking something

Push it down in and wiggle it around a bit

If it does come free pay carefull atention to your miles rather than the gauge as it may trap against the tank like the way the first 1200's had a recall for

Neil, you could be onto something here cos for some reason I had the devils own job reconnecting the QD hoses when I refitted the tank - it was almost as if they had been shortened which would be logical if I had fitted the panel incorrectly thereby increasing the distance between the QD connections.

What's the easiest way of draining the tank purrleeeaaaase! I wanna go for a ride tomorrow and I would rather get this sorted before I go rather than wait until next weekend.

Sorted

I decided to sort it out right now, I'd only be fretting and I didn't like the noise the fuel pump was making and I was concerned that it might get damaged. St Eptoe was correct, I had repositioned the mounting plate incorrectly by 60 degrees. All working ok now.

Not bad all sorted in an less than a coiuple of hours from first posting the problem
