Got no personal knowledge - been there but can't remember - but Autoroute shows two garages, and Anglo and a Bethania, just to the East of the village on the B4391. Mapsource just shows the Anglo garage.

i was right by Glyn ceirrog last weekend when someone GPS said the was a fuel station in Llangallon, found out the was not yesterday.. knocked down around 18 months ago :o had some road work to cover on KTM to get fuel just out side Chirk.

so in the ideal world hoping someone lives close to that area whom could give me a defo yes or no. :thumb

The one in Penybontfawr is no longer doing petrol. The nearest is just outside LLanrhaeadr approx 3 miles away. I don't know what hours this one is open but I would not bank on it outside of 9 to 5 Mon-FRi Sat morning is a possibility. There is one in LLansantffraid approx 10 miles away that is open longer hours or failing that it is Bala or Oswestry depending which way you are travelling.
I was up around Glyn Cerriog on Saturday testing out the wife's new bike on some trails. Just managed to get home on a tankful.

Cheers for that,
I was laning there this weekend also .. done around betws y coed friday. Barmonth saturday , and sunday came over from north of bala. done the area about 6 times now in all weathers.. But yesterday found some great lanes around Glyn Cerriog.. was shocked to see petrol sation gone from llangallon.. because i normal go over form just out side Oswerstry to North of Bala for fuel... but would rather find a petrol station over this side of the Berwyns rather than coming back to the car for fuel or doing over 10 miles round trip for fuel..

but cheers thats a great help :thumb

Buying fuel...I'm no fool...or am I?

This is where people with thirsty bikes fall down...
Having campaigned the Welsh lanes for some time now, I have had to alter my taste of machine not to the way I can ride, the price of the spares or if it's this years colours, but to the amount of distance it can cover using the fuel it can carry.
IMS tanks have helped in the past to create more scope but at a cost.
Sunday is the worst time to try to obtain fuel so a fuel dump/drop should be set up if heading further West than Oswestry.
Saturday isn't so bad if you start early (0830) from Llangollen, Chirk or Oswestry, doing the Glyn Cerriog valley, etc, then cut back West to Llansilin where gas is available from Evan's Garage until 1300hrs, that will give you enough mileage to do the rest of the splendid routes in the area until your low level lager alarm is sounding and a blat back to the digs for a shower and change sets you up for a welsh lady charming session...........
The garages mentioned, Penybontfawr hasn't had petrol since the Foot and Mouth Epidemic, and Llangollen closed about a year ago reason unknown, are just typical of a trend of remote or rural fuel distribution points falling foul of rising cost and less people visiting the countryside area. Where are all the droves of ramblers now fuelling up there minibuses, buying butties, snacks and beverages, and supporting the countryside they are getting all to themselves too easily? Sad b4st4rds, wh4t y0u g0ing t0 f*ck up next?
Regards.

Well it's not the case thirsty bikes it's more the case of laning from early in the morning 8 am until it just gets dark in winter or when light permits out for 10 hours like i was saturday around Barmonth area where we done a fuel dump the night before for 5 bikes, which saved lots of time ..for my bike i can put a long range tank on it which i have but not all people have them, I've carried a extra 2 litre contanier from HG which was usefull but again folk do not wana carried them, I tend to have a fuel stop and a stank at the same time with a 20 minute break.. But from the replys i've had the seems to be no petrol stataions in the ideal place for us... which means ,doing extra road work 10 miles round trip etc, fuel dump, or carry more fuel.
Well i'll be doing a route which is not ideal next time i'm out that way but carring extra fuel....i'm even thinking of making some sort of carring system so the bke carry hold two fuel contaners in saddle bag format, which will take easy lanes only, dump fuel...go off do a few hours around that area, re-fuel, carry on laning until coming close to RES, then head back which you should get 10 plus miles road work on RES on any bike..

cheers for the info very help full :thumb
