Phase Change experience?

I don't mean "has any of you gone from solid to liquid lately"...
I am trying to figure out what temp ranges (either in F or inC) these fancy new things are good for...
...and whether anyone has specific recommendations with regard to particular manufacturers.

I currently ride with an Aerostitch 90% of the time (for years and years and years) and wonder whether phase change under the stitch is the hot ticket (or maybe the temperate ticket)

Here in Southern California, it is much more often too hot than too cool.

I've got a phase change pants and some ordinary thermals at 1/3 of the price. The thermals are just as good!

I have some phase change socks . They are warm in winter and warm in summer. They were supplied FOC by the manufacturer, Outlast.

Also, my company supplied some specialist clothing to the police in Madrid. Two sets contained Outlast, two sets did not. The officers noticed a different for about 10 minutes only.

There may be circumstances under which these materials can perform well, but I think the materials and garments need far more development work before they meet the manufacturer's claims.

Hard for me to be scientific about this but I've had the following:

BMW comfortemp waistcoat/jacket: sent it back cos sleeves kept coming off. It didn't seem to be doing much, and wasn't breathable on bicycle. Tended to overheat.

Rukka Outlast shirt and longjohns: I've got 3 shirts and 2 longjohns, and I think they're excellent. Can get them in Infinity now. I perceive that they ARE better than just normal thermals, but it may be just good build etc. They are nicely designed, with just the right amount of 'neck', and they have lasted well over last 3 years

BMW Comfort Gloves: warmest gloves I've ever had. after 2-3 years they're starting to wear out, and I got BMW ProWinter's instead. The prowinters feel thicker, but my fingers are cold when I get to work, which never happened with the comfort's. In an attempt to be scientific, I took my brother on the back last winter, and put a hein gericke (lobster style) on one hand and a BMW Comfort on the other and made him hold both hands out in the wind. He reported that the hein gericke hand got cold first !

So I think the stuff does work, but has to be used in the right way, and in a well designed garment. Gloves seem to be a good use, cos they do get cold, but I think BMW don't make 'em any more ! I reckon the outlast underwear does work too.

BMW gloves

Brought a pair of winter gloves about five years ago at a rally after arriving with soaking gloves, £85.00. Got home found lable inside saying made in Thailand!, must have cost BM at least a £5.00.

iI've got Revit CElcius gloves that contain phase change. With heated grips they are incredibly warm. The heat from the grips is transferred all the way around my hand, rather than just the palm. Without the grips on they are cold, and, don't leave them out all night in the garage. They'll never warm up!!
I would think a phase change jacket would be great with a heated vest to soak up the heat.

I got the jacket and long john things.

Good in spring and autumn. Useless otherwise. Well made and fits me well. Rolls up small. Passable Robocop look to scare the kids into going to bed = good value.
