Anybody tried the jacket in the BMW catalogue with the detachable sleeves? Looks pretty useful (if a tad teutonic) and not too steep at £105.

Any good??

(Im angling for a Chrismus pressie)

Best bit of kit I ever bought. Best between about 5c and 20c. If the temperature is uncertain, I wear it for non motorcycling purposes as well.

Keep a look out for it in sales. You can often pick it up cheaper than list.

Just buy it!

Paul

PS I like it :)

The PCM jacket is an essential bit of kit if your gonna ride through the winter.
Personally I wear it over one or two other thermal layers depending on temp, these are primarily for insulation on the arms as I find the quilted arms of the jacket not up to the job.

not good

I didn't like it. I returned it on the basis that the sleeve zips both broke.
I used it mostly for skiing and cycling, but it wasn't what I wanted. It didn't seem to give much extra heat, but when I got hot, its capacity for heat buffering was easily exhausted and it was VERY hot.

I traded it in for the BMW Airvantage vest which I have found much better for skiing and cycling, and I think for biking.

To be honest, on a cold day I use my electric waistcoat and nothing else is necessary.

ps I'm very pro PCM technology otherwise: I have PCM gloves (BWM comfort), a comfortemp helmet liner (system 4 evo elite) and PCM underwear (rukka outlast). All of these are EXCELLENT. Especially the rukka outlast stuff.

Thanks..

..for your comments guys.

Gasman, I had a look (but not tried on) at the Airvantage waistcoat too, but that seemed a tad restrictive and I thought the £175 (I think) was expensive.

I would want it for cycling / walking too.

Yeh the airvantage is pretty expensive ! You have to get a size bigger too, cos its tight when inflated. Hein Gericke do a slightly cheaper one (c.£150 ?) .
Does work though..

I chose the other BMW PCM Phase Change jacket, because the sleeves were same as body of jacket.........so figured it would keep me warmer............try it and it's cheaper @ £65 instead of £105 for the black one
