hi guys,

I live in the Philippines and I want to buy a Gps (Garmin 276).
According to Garmin it exists with the Pacific basemap which would be ok.

How do I get one with a Pacific basemap? all the online stores don't seem to have the option to choose what basemap you'll get. (Garmin importer here is not fully up to speed and ridiculously expensive ...)

Does anyone know whether there's a big difference between the Pacific basemap and the worldmap regarding the Philippines?

PS. I did a search but couldn't find the answers.
Been lurking here for a while and want to thank all in regards to the load of technical info available on the site (nearest bm dealer 700 km in Manila....)

cheers and thanks in advance,

Jan

Hi Jan,

I know Dumagette as I worked a few dive seasons in Alona beach Bohol. Plus been to Apo island a few times.

Get a 276 with any base map and get the world map. Load it onto the 276 and no problem. However base map or world map. The GPS won't be much use to you in Dumagete except on a boat or to work out speeds distance travelled etc. The mapping for the visayas being crap.

I could send you a copy of World Map but it only costs 40 anyway.

Will be back in asia soon but maybe thailand this year.
