Hi folks , when you say you are “ using a phone “ with the MRA running , are you projecting the phone screen via one of those tablet type devices Chigee/ Carpuride etc ? ,,,,, or are you using the phones own screen to look at the route map / guidance ?

Cut and moved.

I’ve used the phone directly but more lately I’ve used MRA on both a Chigee AIO5 and on two bikes fitted with Aoocci C6 Pro.
I’ll be using it next week on my Wing CarPlay.

When you can get an Aoocci C6 for £130, beats me why anybody would still use an XT at three times the price .

The interface with CarPlay is so much easier and lets you quickly swap to Google Maps or similar if you don’t need a complicated route in MRA .

Yup, sold my XT about three years back as it was a waste of time having it as the phone did a better job with MRA.
until winter sets in and you have fat fingered gloves with no capacitive touch...that's where I prefer a garmin or other device. I think the planning ability on MRA etc is so easy, and the interface is cool, but the actual use of a phone on a bike interferes with how I want to listen to music and alter a route without stopping and taking glove off.

Or until your phone is out of action ( several reasons ) , then you are fck’d.
The need for TWO functioning devices , before you get one functioning route , is , in my opinion , bonkers.

many of the rugged phones now operate in a glove mode as they are primarily designed for those working outside on construction sites etc where PPE is mandatory.

I use my sacrificial phone’s screen. It’s not a lot smaller (area wise) than a modest Chigee or similar. Nor is it much smaller than my XT’s screen.

I don’t need or use music or to make / receive calls or texts on the move.

I have no great interest in the name of roads on the map displayed, nor do I worry if I go ‘off route’.

There are though some things which a good Garmin device can and will do better than a phone.

I use both. Sounds like a wank but either one can get things wrong (two different map sets, three id I use OSMand on the ohone) or one can crap out at an inopportune moment (the Zumo coming in to Bogota) and although I think Google maps is great on my old Blackview rugged phone, the Zumo is easy to use - my gloves allegedly work on the phone, but it's very hit and miss.

possibly. But dainty they aint

I would not have one as a main phone. It would be something used as a cheap navigation device as an alternative to pairing the main phone with a Chigee type device. They are priced from under £100 but £150 gets you something with an up to date version of Android that can be updated a few times. Seems a better option than spunking £350+ quid on a Garmin

I always have a spare phone .
To go on a trip with only one phone , is, in my opinion, bonkers 😜

Not all of us traverse the Alps in mid January like you 😜
