Hi Guys, newish to the site and now subscribed member to the forum. I thought I would show you a couple of photos of my new Bike. As you may be aware, I traded a 2009 Hayabusa for the RT in July this year. I have to say that after 1900 miles of mixed riding in all weathers, which has included some torrential rain in the Yorkshire Dales. The big girls has acquitted herself very well. Handling the twisties with ease for such a big bike. The only mods I have done so far have been adding the plastic cyclinder head protectors and fitting the gps mount from Wunderlich for the Zumo 550. The dealership fitted the standard BM GPS mount but the angle for viewing the screen was all wrong and could not be adjusted without modification. I think it is designed for Zumo 660. Very pleased with bike, still getting used to the height of the seat, I am 6ft 1" tall and flat footed at standstill but with very little bend in the knee. The seat is on the lowest setting. Toying with the idea of getting the comfort seat which I believe is lower. But at £380 A pop is an expensive option. Anyone got one fitted? Does it make a difference? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Great site by the way. :beerjug:

Looks very nice mate. I'm about to make the change to an RT myself :thumb2 Happy riding buddy.

Hi
I have just come back from a 2700 mile tour in France and Spain on the RT (I changed from a 2006 std GS back in May).

All I can say is its a revelation the RT handled everything spot on - comfortable, quiet, smooth and reliable. The only options I have added are Wunderlich bar raisers (more to see through the mirrors) and a set of Engine guards (full frame guards). The seat I use on the highest setting (I am 5'11" tall) and the seating position is perfect.

Cruise control is fantastic and useful on a few of the return Autopistas, Headlights are great in std form.
Handling was spot on (for my ability anyway) and the ride was smooth and trouble free. I used no oil at all and cruising at and above AutoRoute speeds was very comfortable - big miles in big swaiths!

The only room for improvement I could see:
As the front tyre gets well worn the bike becomes noisey in corners when banked over (a groaning from the front) but still handles fine.

Traction control can be a bit intrusive and needs switching off at the slightest sign of gravel tracks or grass, the engine management seems to shut down the throttle really quickly and can sometimes cause a stall. (to be fair a couple of tracks and parking areas were really rough)

Should have gone for the radio!

Conecting Zumo via Canbus means too much feedback via the Autocom (Deffo the Zumo because the Autocom is wired to the external power feed socket and has no fed back when listening to MP3 player)

All in all very pleased with the bike.

That's great to hear, Rik. I pick up my RT on Tuesday and I can't wait. Apologies in advance for the fact that it will now probably piss down all day Tuesday :D

All the above, I am looking to fit a radio to mine at the moment. Problem is it has to be very neat, i have a mild OCD and if it doesnt look like part of the bike i'll rip it off. I'll let you know how i get on.

Interesting what you said about the bar risers, i am 5'9 and find the seat no problem at all height wise, plus the reach to the bars is perfect for me, but i have often thought it would be nice to see more through the mirrors?

I know what you mean about the front tyre Rik, mine went right off, made the bike feel awful, fitting a new one was like a revelation!!

I have a small velcro pad on top of the radio controls blanking plate and fit an MP3 player to it, I have a lead running from here to the Autocom. The MP3 player holds a huge amount of music and is touch screen it also has built in radio which can still be used via touch screen with a gloved hand. Only problem is it is not waterproof, but it is a good enough addition to break up long and boring journies. For charging I have a coiled lead that goes direct to the battery with a cigerette socket attached (this can be detached via an optimate style charger socket) - I use this to charge the MP3 player when required. The ciggy lighter end will sit easily in the glove box and still lock so it can be charged when I am away from the bike.
Note the power feed comes in useful to run a compressor or an air pump for caming mattress it means the Can bus system doesnt cut out due to the power drain.

Its not an ideal siuation but it is neat and tidy and I can see the MP3 screen well enough to change tracks or volume - one handy feature on the MP3 player is if you touch the middle of the screen while a track is playing it mutes the track if you need to concentrate or if you are talking.
Dont know if I can post pictures but if I can I will.

Regards
Rik

Congrats

Congrats on the RT Shipwreck. Hope you enjoy it.

I've had one for a few years now and it's the bike I've owned the longest. Love it and got no reason to change. It handles in a way you would not expect a tourer to do.

Pic of mine in Scotland last March. Off up to do a quick coastal loop next week. Can't wait :D

Thanks for the info Rik.

I don't have auto com mate so am looking for a radio I can connect to some speakers which I will fit in where the optional radio speakers sit.

I'm looking into a Roberts DAB radio at the moment, it has a connection for external speakers and I can hide it in the pocket. Not ideal as I can't change radio stations on the move but to be honest I only really listen to R2 or Classic FM on the way to and from work (130 mile round trip) something to alleviate the boredom!!!

Let us know how you get on with the radio and speakers?
