Does anybody know why it is that I am able to download most photos, diagrams etc from the web but sometimes I just get a little white square with a red X in the middle? How do I reset my pc to download these?

That little red cross means that your web browser couldn't find the picture referred to in the web page. Usually, it means that someone has moved the picture, or perhaps they have used up their bandwidth quota (a common occurrence on picture hosting sites). There's not usually anything YOU as a user can do about it. Except perhaps try again later!
