Quick question , if you wanted to give the effect on a photo, of a rainbow type light effect running diagonal ie top left to bottom right,,any idea how too using cs3...:nenau
 
easiest would probably be find an image of a Rainbow on the net save the image to your PC and using the layers put it on top of your photo, then change the opacity of the rainbow image till you get the effect you want.
 
Not sure if it's what you're after but you can get some interesting effects playing around with 'Lens Flare / 'Lighting Effects' (under Filter - Render - )

Going back a bit using CS3 but agree that use of gradient tool seems way to go.

Start with new layer, set a rainbow arc using the marquee tool, fill the marquee with the arc and then set the opacity to let the background through.

Another way may be to draw an arc and stroke it with one rainbow colour, blur it, draw a second arc etc etc 7 times.

Layer then gradient tool was the way to go......did try the lighting effects first time round but could,nt get the colours correct, thanks lads all done.:thumb
