Picos and Pyrenees on a wing and a prayer !

Starting this early as i suspect it may go horribly wrong !

Myself and my idiot mate with KTM 1290 SDR (Not Melch) are / will be riding the Picos and the Pyrenees soon. A full and witty picture heavy ride report will hopefully be constructed fairly live during the event.

Now Being an ex military man i do like to have a plan whereas the aforementioned idiot mate has not a single inkling about plans and he is organizing the trip. I may be being unfair as at least the ferry to Santander is booked but that is it as far as forward thinking goes.

To use the phrase of the moment the high level idea is we land in Santander, have 4 days hooning our stupidly fast awesome steeds around the Picos then head along some stupid road that looks bloody amazing on a map, (we do have a map acquired from a Spanish little chef by the looks of it) ducking and diving into and out of the Pyrenees for 3 days before finally crossing into France and doing one to le chunnel.

With nothing booked other than the ferry I have visions of sleeping rough at the side of a road and eating road kill. Still it should be a good laugh and more adventurous than Lidl (no Waitrose up ere)

I did a similar trip in 2014, off the ferry and check the map, find a nice road and decide how far you think you can travel before you get hungry or it gets dark and check a town along the route via trivago or trip adviser and book your hotel for the night, then over dinner you can discuss tomorrows hooning and check trivago for hotels, worked out well for me.

Routes now done and hotels ( mostly) booked

All apart from the hooning our awesome steeds round the Picos which we will leave to chance and anarchy

Oh yes I have also checked the long range weather forecast and it might or might not rain

Howdo Rick, trip sounds good, very similar to one Julie and I had planned for this year, sadly the finance department wouldn't authorise cost for 2 bikes ,fuel and the like. Look forward to reading and seeing what you have been up to.

The ferry was not too bad one way at about 300 quid for 2 bikes with a cabin ( way cheaper than last year when i looked) hotels are cheap too which is a surprise. biggest expense for me looks like tyres and petrol !

I'm booked on the Portsmouth-Bilbao boat on the 4th together with 3 mates. Where are you headed to when you get to Spain?

We are on the Santander boat so thats a beer with you not happening. We will be heading to Ribbedesella for a couple of nights i think then meandering along the Pyrenees on The N260 which is a road that must be ridden apparently As to anythinbg else Feck knows
