Hello.

I've just fitted a set of XR650R forks and yokes to my 1990 GS. The difference in spindle height was taken up with a large diameter aluminium spacer. The ride height has been corrected by dropping the stanchions through the yokes by 75mm.

Should I worry about the headstock being up to it? The offset isn't much different but I have read of people bracing headstocks and wonder if I need to do the same.

Pictures are possible when my camera warms up.

Not unless you're into some very extreme off-road adventures.

Is your steering angle not too limited now?
Due to the smaller offset the forks usually bump into the tank.

Show us some pictures!

Cheers,
Michel

I'm told, fat and unfit to tank it offroad:)

I've made temporary lockstops from 19mm nylon rod. It seems as easy to shift about in the workshop as it was.

No edit function then. Arse, teach me not to proof read.:blast

If any passing mods oblige with correcting the obvious spelling mistakes I'd be grateful.:)

I found some piffals once. I keep them in a box at the back of the garage hoping they come in useful one day.

Pretty please?

It really, really irritates me when I make spelling mistakes:mad:

Get a spell checker for your browser... easy if its Firefox... hi-lights what it sees as errors.

Have you kept the wheelbase the same?
What diameter is your axle?

John

I use FF too. :blast

Didn't check the wheelbase. Currently using an XR wheel too but I hope to make some spacers so I can get the original wheel back in.

I'm having stupid thoughts about twin discing it at some point.

Yes, but the bike is hidden behind a load of crap whilst I do some woodwork on a mate's fishing boat.

Maybe tomorrow.:comfort
