Trip out with mates, first one in a year. Meet at Abergavenny car park.....go to start the bike and it’s dead.
8 days I’ve had this 2015 1200GS, Approved Used, what sort of battery have they put in these bikes FFS.

Good job it’s;
Dry
I’ve only got a cold dinner
I’ve got phone signal.

I’ve been in darkest mid Wales in the last week, if it broke down there I’d likely had no signal.

Not a great experience

Now waiting 90 mins for a breakdown vehicle coming from Bath area!

Still, not the best start to a relationship.

Ring BMW and give them some feedback. I'd call the dealer first though where you bought the bike from and tell them you want reimbursing for the cost of the replacement battery. I know folk will say 'Its a battery, its not covered under a warranty etc'. Batteries can be checked and should be checked before the vehicle they are attached to is sold, any doubt the battery should be changed.

I've owned my share of bikes over the years, and on most of them the battery sooner or later has needed replacement.

Even if I realize that it does happen that the battery may suddenly short a cell, I will say that in every case my battery have needed replacement, there has always been plenty of warnings ahead of a potential failure, which has given me time to change the battery before I got stranded.

A bike is a mechanical device, and no matter what the dealer does of checking, the rider is not totally relieved of paying attention as well. Thus, I feel the header of this post does not entirely describe the issue.

Happens.
When my Ducati was delivered to my home, they rolled it out than van onto my drive. Talked me through the controls, switched it on, toggled through the tft etc without any issue. Switched it off and then back on again. Pressed the stater button and the whole thing shut down! Dead, nothing, nada, zilch.
Took it away and re- delivered it 4 hours laters. New battery installed.
Never a single issue since.

Exactly what DS said.... it happens .

Got my bike out one day in 2019 , started & let her warm up and got all my gear on , rode it out through my side gates, got off to lock them up and put the side stand down cutting the engine . Fired her up again, slightly sluggish but thought nothing of it. However first stop was the petrol station down the road . Filled her up turned her on , nothing , just a click, dead as a door nail. Pushed her home, on charge for an hour .... all good went out again no issues.

Flattened her again last year by getting off and leaving ignition & spotlights on for 40mins had to get a jump from a passer by. Bike is 7 yrs old later this year ...original battery. Not ridden since October last year , on and off an Optimate regularly during winter .....started on the button last weekend.
.

and not one of you had one of those little jump start packs? Best £30 I have spent on Ebay. Got me going again when my S1000XR battery failed at Tesco petrol station and revived my Seat car battery one frosty morning.

Mine was at home , in the garage :D I did use it to take the strain off the battery when I started it again to go out .
I only seem to take it with me on longer trips, you can’t bump start a DCT.

the only times mine is not in the topbox is when it is in the tankbag, being deployed or being charged

It's a battery, they can fail any time..... not really fair to label the bike as a "pile of shit" because of a failed battery :blast

My 2015 GS bought from new and I do all my own servicing, so know the bike inside out. Despite living in a warm climate and using an optimate, I had to replace the factory battery after 3 and a half years. In fact I was only thinking last week that I might drop a new one in to be on the safe side. If your bike is still on the original battery, not changing it is asking for trouble.

They are great bikes enjoy it.....:thumb

Has Beefy thrown his teddies out, or is he still waiting at the side of the road..... not been seen since his post here :nenau

Get a lithium in it . Had one fitted to my Panigale for the last 6 years at it never fails to start the big lump with out any trickle charging
